hey guys. well I have hade my 6 Futaba 3305 servos for about... 2 years now. they have about 25 flights on them and they have been in about.... 5 different planes. now I have them in my ShowTime. they worked fine in my first showtime but it crashed due to a deadstick. in a hover and the motor quit. yeah hard flat landing on the runway. well i got my new ShowTime and when i was setting it all up in my radio and the night before i whent to go fly it. and the rudder servo didn;t have barley any of its torque. i could turn it with my fingers. well i put another bigger Digi servo in it and it works fine now. then my Right elevator and right aileron started doing the same thing. and it was cuase the servo extensions were bad. replaced them and they worked fine. well when i started it and was running it on the ground, the left aileron servo looked like it would glitch a lil bit. i thought it was OK soo i took it up. it was flying fine. well i started to do some rolling circles and it just totaly STOPED rolling for a split second but i hade controll of the rudder and elevator. I don;t know if it was just the wind or what ever but i landed it fine and left it running and held the servo arm and i could feel it glitching just a tiny bit. about 3 mm of glitching. now it doesn't glitch when its not running (saito 125) what do i do? i want to fly it this weekend soo should i take it apart and see if there is any thing loose? maybe a wire came off? or should i replace that servo extension also?
Thanks! -Danny

You said you crashed the plane with these servos in it and moved it into another plane?
Thats your problem. Did you inspect the servos? Are there any broken gears, or missing teeth? Did a connection come loose from the jolt of the crash? With out checking the servos over after any kind of a crash you can't blame the servos at all. Even a dead stick rough landing can blow out the best servo if the control surface is at the right position. i say pull all the servos out and give them a good inspection.

well the crash wasn't hard at all. and servos are fine in condition. the reason i made this thread is becuase my friend's 3305 did the same thing and he sent it back and got a new one and it worked great
I'm just wondering instead of sending it back maybe i can fix it. any one else out there have this problem?

might get you a lot less frowns instead of just saying "this servos sucks" Think the situation through before posting.

I don't know anything about these servos at all, but you'd be surprised at just what can happen in a crash. You may not think it was hard at all, but the G's that can happen in a crash are amazing.

Forget the crash angle. It likely had nothing to do with it.
I also have the 3305s in a plane, and I can say they don’t suck, but they are not the best choice. My plane is a 33% Extra and I too noticed that two servos ganged will no longer hold a KnifeEdge. Used to do it with no issues, and I blamed by battery and who knows what else. Servos were new when I got them and have never been crashed, or even a hard landing. They have lost their pull so I put in a digital JR8611A and guess what??? Only 1 servo is needed for the rudder to do anything I want with this plane. Now I notice my ailerons jitter a bit and I need to manually stop them once in a while. I am worried this will happen in flight and just took out another mortgage to put in more 8611s. The 3305 is not even recommended for aircraft (they say cars on the Futaba website), but they have high torque, metal gears, and are inexpensive. I think they just wear out. My experiment was worth it, but I would not use these for aircraft requiring much torque. Great company, great servos, but not for this application and not for yours either. |

I don't think they are crap. I have them on the ailerons of my 33% Cap and beat on it regularly with NO problems. I have practiced harrier rolls for tanks on end with them at full deflection. Its one of the best deals out there IMO for giant scale.

Cool it down a bit there kids. He is upset because his servos are not doing what they are supposed to do.
Everyone seizes on the crash aspect (which could be an issue, though we don't know), and overlooks that these are not intended for aircraft use. Ask Futaba why and they will tell you. I fly 3D and IMAC with my 33% and I have over 80 flights on it now and the servos are wearing out. No crashes, bought new, two batt packs, two regulators, yadda yadda yadda. In no way am I going to badmouth the servo. I am saying I have experienced very similar issues to his and replaced one, and in a week the rest. My ailerons are slowly going bye bye, and my rudder has given up the ghost a while ago. I abuse my rudder, so that is no surprise. Mine have had no crashes, hard landings... heck... I even take one in my pocket with me to church on Sundays. Another has sat at the dinner table next to my wife as we broke bread. I would like to suggest the servo use a bib next time, as the little bugger spilled juice down his connector when he drank too fast. There is a better way to title a message other than saying they are CRAP, but...don't hammer the guy just because he has a complaint. I have been a pot smoking black woman (with the new QuiQue sunglasses) for too long to put up with all this negativity. Last edited by MetHerInBaghdad; 05-05-2006 at 12:29 AM. |
