Default You can tell spring is almost here when...

You can tell spring is almost when you see motorcycles out and then.......I get call out for a serious injury motorcycle crash. Last Thursday afternoon, the temp was in the 50's. Sunny and guess what. The first serious injury crash involving a motorcycle. The Motorcycle attepted to pass a slower moving truck and miss judge the distance between him an a stopped truck that was waiting to make a left turn. No helmet, and lets throw in alcohol on the motorcyclist. After stricking the right rear of the truck, the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike. The motorcyclist traveled 130 feet and the motorcycle went 160 feet. The motorcyclist recieved a depressed skull fracture, fracture of C 1, 2, and 3, broken ribs, collapsed lung, compound fractures of tib and fib X2, an no fealing on the left side of his body. His BAC was 2X the legal limit.

Remember; when riding a Motorcycle, always wear a helmet and stop drinking. You dont have the metal around you like you do in a car.

Having been a Motorcycle safety instructor for 15 years and currently working as a paramedic. I do agree with the statement that bikes and booze don't mix.

The best protection for a rider is to never get into an accident in the first place. If you ride a motorcycle, do yourself a favor and take a safety course. The course will teach you methods to avoid an accident.

Helmets can save lives, but they aren't the cure. Head injuries aren't the only thing that can kill in a motorcycle crash.

When you look at how people drive these days, it's insane to even own a motorcycle. That doesn't even take into account alcohol or my mistakes made while driving.

I know I miss mine like a good friend.

i to was in an accident with my wife on the back. ran off the road by assumably a drunk driver he did not stop. we were doing about 60mph. we were pushed off the road and thats when the baja began. one thing i was taught was never hit the front brakes in gravel or dirt loose control real fast. but i tried to stop but hit a mound and was launch off the bike. we were both thrown maybe 60'. was hard to tell. but we were both wearing helmets and riding jackets and gloves. well well walked away my helmet was deformed from the impact to the ground and the back of my jacket had serious slide marks on the back. if i wasnt' wearing them i would of atleast had serious head injuries and torn up back. my wifes helmet not as bad. no helmet law in ohio which is stupid but i guess it weeds out the stupid riders. your body can handle alot more injury than your head.

Definately! The Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Advanced Rider Course is the best investment even a very experienced rider could make towards his survival on the streets. I've taken it twice. The value in repeating the course is that you get to mix with a whole new set of riders each time, some of whom have taken it multiple times. They represent an emmense pool of real-life experience in defensive driving strategies that could someday save your life.

Roughly half of the course is a loosely structured lecure/discussion. A lot of great information is shared.

Old joke, but I'm not going to get into that discussion. Let's just say that I'm glad that the state I live in doesn't require the use. When I wear a helmet is is by choice.

I can honestly say that all the friends of mine that have been killed in motorcycle accidents were either wearing helmets or the injuries that caused the death would not have been prevented by the wearing of a helmet. There have been a few over the years.
