Default Getting Lucky today!

No not that kind of getting lucky . Well I think my Wild hare has 9 lives after today. About 8 minutes into my first flight of the day my left wing seperated from the fuse( Got sidetracked and forgot to tighten) . I called landing because I though for a second I had some control of it ( was nowhere near people) but then the wing really slid off of the tube some more and turned 90 degrees. Needless to say I lost control so I put it to high rates, engine at idle, and full up elevator and it flat spun into a big tree and made that all so familiar cracking sound. I walked out to the woods to pick up the pieces of my extra and found it in one piece. I had to pull it out of a brier patch but it was totally ok, nothing wrong at all. Didnt even break my vess. I gave a good check over, made sure all the servos where working still and no gears were stripped, found the wing bolt inside the fuse, tighened the wings and flew it. 5 minutes in I get a serious fludder on the left aileron so I landed and found that the servo had failed, evidently from the landing in the tree. Either way I had two close calls but still got to go home with the same amount of planes I showed up with. Heres a before and after pic.....

Honestly I think it was an unwise decision to fly the plane again without really going over things with a fine tooth comb after crashing. You must really like tempting the flying Gods.

But really glad you saved it twice.

I absolutely agree with you sweet pea, and yes I did go over it and check to make sure it was air worthy. All servos worked fine, and had no slop in the gears so I flew it again. If i thought it would have been a problem I definitely would not have flown it. Maybe I should send every servo in for a check?

And he gonna maiden another one today .

Actually he should be good to go, he appeased the flying gods twice yesterday. Maybe that's why I had a great day of flying...

Sorry Rob, had to rub it in

I hate you only out of jealousy. If it weren't for that we could be friends.

Glad you came out on the better half. Too bad you weren't at a casino right then.

I used a servo out of a plane i crashed, tested it at home, on taxi tests the full works, first attempted flight of the plane it failed on range check, completely died. Typical it was on the throttle so i just bought a new one.

Ive learned a lesson im not using any servos from a trashed plane again, it could have been a major money looser. It was a big crash though.

Wow!!! You lucky fart!!! Good save. Reminded me of the times when I was still kinda scared to flip my radio onto high rates. We were at a flying field 4 minutes from my house but it's not there anymore 'cause the government thaught it was more important to build a giant refrigerator on the site for a DOD server farm. Was there with 2 friends and got into trouble with my Funtana 90 with a Saito 150. I lost it into the woods and heard what sounded like the motor slamming into a truck. My perception told me the plane should've been in the woods but my buddies who had been flying for a couple of years more than me said I probably ended up in the Chem Lawn storage field way beyond the woods. I swore they were wrong but had to be right 'cause of the metallic sounding crash. I was picturing pieces of the Saito and the plane and the massive dent on a truck. So we hiked thru the woods to the storage facility. Looking thru the fence, there was absolutely no sign of destruction anywhere. Did'nt seem like anybody was there(Sunday). No cameras, so we did what any other redblooded RC junkie would do, we broke in and felt like kids again. We could not find the plane or any damage at all. What we did find was an old smashed OS.46 underneath a dilapidated tanker truck(looked like it had been there for a couple of years), laughed our asses off, and started to head back to where we climbed the fence. There was an old guy passed out in a tractor with an empty bottle of Captain Morgan next to him. I guess that was the security system for the place. So we hiked back thru the woods and never found the plane. Got back to the field and started flying my Funtana 40. About an hour later while everyone was busy, I went back into the woods and went to where I thought the plane went in. I found this little fat pine tree that looked like somthing had womped onto it with tall grass next to it. There was my plane hidden in the grass!!! It was in almost perfect shape except for the tail gear was yank'd out but was still there held on by the springs!!! Also had a couple of holes in the ultrakote. Awesome!!! When I got out of the woods with the plane in my hands, My buddies could'nt believe it. Checked everything out by throwing the sticks with one of them holding the servo horns, all good, muffler still tight, landing gear repaired, flew the hell out of it the rest of the day(on low rates). The OS.46 turned out to belong to an old member of the club who had crashed and never found the plane(maybe he was'nt redblooded and did'nt think of scaling the fence). But one of the guys did get the motor back to him after 3 years of wondering what ever happened to the plane. Now, the bad news. 2 days later, back into high rates trying to harrier, I did the same thing. I totally lost it full throttle into the ground trying to save it. This time, we got to witness the crash, but thats another story.... ... .. . Now, Always on high rates and loving it!!!!

Cool story,

You know what they say about crashes.

If you know it's going in and there is nothing you can do, grab a chair, sit down and enjoy the show, you paid for it!!!

Funny story... I was amazed at how loud the noise was when mine went in yet had no damage, and I only posted my strory because I wanted to hear how many others have had something like this happen. Seems the odds are not very good of getting it back from a crash in one piece.

What's really wierd though is it totally sounded like metal on metal which is why everyone swore I was farther out than I was saying I was. But the sound did convince me that I was totally off on my depth perception. It was a loud metallic clang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No it was not cracked at all. A few small scratches on the bottom that will polish out. Yes I agree, I was very lucky.
