Default r/c brain surgery

A few months ago I was in an accident that caused some brain damage, (like I needed any more). I plan on using electric r/c to help me regain some coordination. Don't worry I will use the computer to fly with first. I am or was an instument rated private pilot but at this point I can't even drive. I still have my license but there is no way I will jepordize the lives of others folks. I plan on starting with small electric helis but the giants have always been my favorites. I flew control line and r/c planes back in the '70s but life and living kind of put my planes on the shelf. I looked around for some r/c chat rooms but even if I found them I now type somewhat slower than a snail crawl and it has taken me quite a bit of time to write something that at least resembles english. So at least for now I will stay with forums. Anyway the old brain is starting to 'thob' so this old retired cop is gonna say bye for now. Nice site folks, and hi to all you nice folks.

Hey Bob,

First I want to say it's great to have you join us.

I'm very sorry to hear about your accident, however, it seems like you are planning on moving ahead and trying new things instead of laying back complaining, that my friend is what I call..."GIANT STYLE!!!!!!!"

Don't worry about how slow you type, shoot, I type slow and I don't have an excuse! Jump in and browse around the site, there's a ton of stuff to see and read.

You are doing a good thing by getting a simulator first, there are several good ones. Two that I have flown, and enjoy, are Aero-Fly Pro Deluxe and Real Flight G3.
Either one of these would work just fine and give you all the help you need for your coordination rebuild.

After you get comfortable with the sim, think about one of the small RTF electric helis, if that is the direction you want to go. They are relatively inexpensive and you can use them indoors in the beginning, nice to try with no wind first. I'm sure others will have ideas of what to get first, look around the site and ask in the forum that fits the question best.

Welcome to the Giants!!!

Thanks for the reply Ken and for your advice. I have several r/c magazines and boy how things have changed. I sure feel old when I see one of the hot planes from the '70s being refered to in nostalgic terms. One thing is the same though. Whether it's the folks that fly with the yolk or the folks on the ground that fly with the sticks, the flying communities are about the greatest people anyone can know. Great flights and safe landings to all of yaw. Bob.

When it comes time for a small heli the blade cx is awesome. I have a buddy who had never flown anything and he started with the blade. Of course I was there to help him, but it is an amazing heli to fly.
