Default The Runway Thread

The name says it all ladies and germs.

We (Sturgis, SD) just recently got our little piece of land for our park. We have enough room for a 500'X75' strip.

Now we just have to decide how were gonna grow/pave it.

Photos and thoughts are highly encouraged.

Thanks.

We did 50x800ft of black top. We have a fair number of jets in our club and GS planes. Grass is cheaper but I would look at the types of planes flown and what you club finances are. If you use grass you'll need a high end mower and do it weekly. BT needs sealing every 3 to 5 years. BT can be cleared in the winter where grass can't be. Dennis

There are several fields here in the midwest that are done in Petromat. Relatively inexpensive, easily installed by the club members, and great to fly off of.

There's a lot of mining in the Black Hills and out in Gillette WY.

Learned last night that they replace the conveyer belts quite often. This material is a vulcanized rubber that is upwards of 6" thick! It comes in various lengths and it's about 10' wide.

I'm going to have a look see next week when I get home. Might be the hot ticket since its FREE.

We'll see.

Our club paved our 75x800 ft runway a fews years back. Sure is nice to fly off of. However we are still paying for it. The cost was I believe $28000 and that was supposedly half price! Good luck with your new field.
