Hey NCFRers, I just wanted to pass along that Forrest joined the Air Force Reserves this past fall and left for basic training a couple weeks ago. He won't be back until mid June and is bumming he's going to miss half the IMAC season with everyone. But he's doing a great thing and mom and dad are certainly very proud. If anyone would like to send him a letter of encouragement please send me a PM and I'll give you his address.

Mike,
Tell Forrest I said Hello and wish him the best. It will be an experience. You both should be proud of him. We also had a local young FG member leave for The AF Reserves today. Jon Soda left for boot camp this morning. Maybe they will run into each other.

My friends that went to Basic and Field Training we would always send them gag gifts, since you typically open them up in front of everyone.
He'll do just fine.

Thanks. Forrest went to Lackland AFB TX where all recruits go for BMT. Actually Forrest knew Jon Soda was also going to BMT and was looking forward to trying to see him there. Small world huh! Maybe they can fly stick planes together!

I know Jon was looking forward to going, cause there sure is nothing happening here but layoffs. I think it was good for him to go. He is a good kid. Heck....I think all young men should have to go. IMO. I ended up joining the Navy at age 28 many years ago because of very bad job looses in our area. Maybe I should go back in the Navy because I just got laidoff again.......... NOT !!!!!! Did my time.

He left 24 Feb and mom had him call each step of the way. We told him to make his last call when he landed in San Antonio as he was taxing in. Once they get off the plane the TIs are waiting in the terminal! Once they spot you the game is on! LOL We've only heard from him once for about 60 seconds. Enough for him to pass along his mailing address.
Forrest has been around the Air Force his whole life thanks to dad and you all know how much he loves airplanes so needless to say he has never second guessed his decision and was excited to go. I do miss my flying buddy though.......... the boy is good.....no doubts there.....

I miss my flying buddy also, so I know what you mean. Time will go by fast, and he will be home soon and a changed person to boot.

Yes sir Papa and thanks Joe. He'll be back in time for the DOGS event for sure as well as the later half of the IMAC circuit. I told him I was a little jealous of him going as I remember those early cadet days for myself and all the fun and games. In a sick way, it can be fun! At least he is in TX where the weather is nice this time of year.

Wow Mike, this is awesome! Didn't know Forrest was going. I am sure proud of him as I can only imagine how proud you must be!
He sure has the sticks and determination for flying RC and I am certain he will do well in boot camp! Can't wait to hear the stories this summer at an IMAC event. Its amazing how fast these young men are growing up! Makes me feel old, ugh.We wish Forrest and your whole family the best and give him a big "Howdy" from all of us on FG. Please keep us posted on what's happening! Regards, Tom
