I must be one of the lucky ones!! I'm using the simple 5 ch sport Spectrum Rx and so far no flashing light!! I just ran it up with a 4 cell pack and HOLY CRAP the power it puts out is crazy !!!! I just need to set up throws and she'll be flying--hopefully tomorrow sometime if the wind slows or stops!

I'm using a 6100e parkflyer receiver, and no flashing lights. . but then again I'm using a JETI 70 amp controller and Axi 2826 instead of the setup from Extreme Flight.

FINALLY managed to get a 4s battery pack on the way for mine. . Hobby Lobby is having problems "certifying" the packs I wanted, and the TP packs hey had in stock were too small IMO, so I went to the Hobby Zone site and they had the TP packs I wanted (2700ma 4s 30c) for LESS than Hobby Lobby wanted for the same pack in 2200ma size. . absolutely amazing. .I think Hobby Zone may be getting more of my business in the future. . . . .

I went cheap on my 4 cell for now. I got a Tenergy 2200 for $37.00.. I was surprised it came with the EC3 connector on it..It'll do for now.

I'm flying mine on Zippy 20C 4S 2650's ($24 each) and so far they're working great - 8min flights consume 80% of capacity. My power setup uses $29 worth of HobbyCity motor and ESC and so far it's ballistic (assuming the hardware lasts 8-).

I looked at that website and it seems they want alot for shipping from China or where ever it is--something like 25 bucks.. I just ran mine late lastnight and can't believe the power it has! Hopefully I'll get the throws set today and fly it later!!

Here's how it compares for similar hardware:

Name Brand:
Batteries ~$70 each x 2
Motor & ESC ~$180 (EF package)
Shipping ~$10
Reliability probably very high

Hobby City:
Batteries $24 each x2
Motor & ESC $29
Shipping ~$30 Express Mail 4 business day service (< 1 kg)
Reliability ok so far after ~20 flights

Totals:
Name brand - $330
Hobby City - $107

Shipping isn't that much of an issue when you consider the overall savings. If I place the order Sunday night, I'll have the goods by Friday. If you opt for the cheapo shipping it goes, literally, on a slow boat from China, and can take three weeks to arrive.

No question there's an issue of reliability but reports I've read combined with LOTS of personal accounts around here in the North-Central IMAC region led me to give these off-brand labels a go. At 1/3 the price it was well worth it. Since I'm currently out of work, H-C allows me to keep up the hobby without having to sell the kids.

PS - The plane flies so well I'm using it to practice for my move up to Sportsman next season. It's the best flying 'little' plane I've ever flown. Hands-down.

If Cheapo you mean by air and not EMS then I always used it and it only takes seven days, all ways have. I have used them for the past year and half.

Thats not bad at all considering the savings...and you can always find someone to order some and split the shipping with you...

For the battery and the shipping its about the same price to go to the LHS for it.. But like you said if I can get someone to split the shipping it's not to bad.

Well, if your only buying one battery I can see that it would be too expensive....

Hey, Pappy - just curious...which HC motor are you using? I've had pretty good luck with them (overall) on other planes. I've got the torque/airboss combo for my EXP, but might look into the motor you are using for a future project. (Forgive me if this info was already stated in this thread, but I don't remember seeing it)

Concerning my blinky rx lights...a "re-bind" seems to have fixed the issue. I'll just keep an eye on it for a while.

Don't know if this will help anyone or not, but I recently learned that the JR/Spektrum "rx blink" can also be caused by powering off your rx, leaving the tx on, and powering the rx back up. Doesn't matter how long the rx is powered off...5 seconds, 5 minutes, 5 hours...doesn;t matter. As long as the tx has remained on & is transmitting on the same channels that the rx previously used, it (the receiver) will think that it experienced a power loss and the lights will blink....even though nothing is wrong.

I've experienced this a lot during initial set-ups where I may leave the Tx on, but plug and un-plug the rx battery numerous times. Just never knew why.

IDK...just a thought. Might explain some of the blinking people are experiencing.

I bought the TR 35-48-B 900kv brushless outrunner and the 40-50amp HobbyKing SS ESC. On the ground with an APC 12-6E I'm pulling 647 watts @ 44amps.

Also, DO NOT be tempted to buy Hobbycity APC knockoffs as I was. The mold quality is horrendous.
