Just pulled the trigger on one of those. I will be using torque 2818-900t motor, CC 45 ESX, 3xhs-65MG+hs-85MG for elevator and ENERGY POWER 4S batteries.

Does the Hacker motor (A30-14L) bolt straight on?

Really not sure what motor to use with this plane since I cant get the Torque, anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried Atlanta Hobby?

They hooked me up recently when EF was out of stock.

I just purchased the Extra a couple of weeks ago and Curt at EF told me that the Hacker A30-14L was a direct bolt on replacement for the Torque motor. I am planning on going with the Hacker at this point. I am just not sure about servos at this point. I am thinking about using the new JR DS388's instead of the Hitecs since guys have been having blowback issues with the Hitecs.

I haven't with my HS82s (RUD/ELE). I know some people have used 85s as well with good luck.

Thanks

Yeah the JRs sound good!

I do like digital servos. I used the new Spektrum H5000s on my 40e Hyperion 260 and love em but they are a bit too big for the EF Extra. The JRs sound good. Not a fan of Hitec when it comes to big gassers
so I guess I should try something else for my electrics.
Will the DS388s slot straight in?

You would have to trim for the length. The plane was designed for HS65s. I had to trim for the HS82s and they are very close in size to the 388s.

But geeze man, $70 bucks a piece. Their are lots of options out there. Just my 2cents. This is not a "comp-arf".

LOL. That is why I have not bought servos yet. I am thinking of maybe using the 65MG's in the ailerons and the 388's for the elevator and maybe the rudder. I am just not a huge fan of hitec servos. I have had some fail at inopportune times. What are all the other options that you are refering too?

Blue Bird. BMS-373MG is same specs as HS65 and they are like $13. I have them in my AIL. Very precise. BMS-380MAX is more like the HS85. Fred M. put those in his tail (I think). A lot of Europeans like the Dymonds, I haven't used them myself. Corona just came out with some digitals. Wild hare is selling their new electrics with Power HD servos (1900A I believe). Just some thoughts.

Personally, I love the Blue Birds. I think they are plenty strong, very accurate, and for the price, hard to beat. They also have digital versions. I've used "cheaper" servos before, but the performance lacked. I don't push my airframes as hard as some people, but the BMS-373s in AIL, and HS82s in tail, haven taken everything I can dish out.

There is a "servo database" website that will blow your mind if you haven't seen it already. I'll try to post a link. My thought is, that a lot of the servos you have never heard of before, you have probably never heard of for a reason. Really the brands with the best reputations are all quality products. But there are quite a few "sleepers" out there for a whole lot less than $35, or even $70 a piece.

I spend a lot of time in front of this stupid computer, most of it is reading up on products. Comparing and contrasting. I don't think I'm alone in this. I'm just saying I pretty much exhausted all recources to come up with a good setup that fit my budget, and I could count on.

Enough of my rambling. hope it sheds some light.

Wow, thanks for the info and the link. That website is really informative. $70 for a micro servo is a bit hard to justify for sure.

Where can you buy them for that?

I just picked up at 42"Slick and it calls for the HS65's. I've been looking for alternatives that don't make me broke.

Well, I hate to say it, but overseas. I have my own personal battles with supporting our economy, blah, blah, blah. But, the bottom line is that HobbyCity/HobbyKing keeps me flying in many regards.

you have to "login" on the HK site to get that price. Otherwise I think they are almost $18. Don't quote me on that I haven't looked there in a bit.
