Great to hear from you Doc and very glad to learn that you and your family escaped the worst. I grew up in Vic and my Dad was a park ranger in Marysville and Taggerty during those years. Still have very clear memories of ash wednesday when I was living in Warrandyte.

Best wishes for yourselves and your community.

Well I had a little bit of an incident today. Had Dad's edge on charge in the trailer getting ready to fly tomorrow. Went inside for about 10min, came back outside to check everything was ok and I was greeted with a shed and trailer full of smoke. I quickly shut off all elec power and pulled the plane from the trailer. Plane is ok just a small amount of smoke damage. Thank god as it could have been much worse.

The Rx pack in that plane were NimH 2200mAh and I had them on discharge at the time. I noticed that the voltage on one pack dropped quickly to 4.5V as the load got to 1A and the other was stable at 6V. Can't say which one went up as I disconnected everything in a rush to get it out of the trailer, and to top it all off one of my chargers is now not working properly (says there is an open circuit on every battery I have tried.

What I am trying to work out is if the charger has failed causing the battery to go up? or has the battery going up some how damaged the charger?

Hi Rusty

Doing a discharge on a pack in the plane is risky, as it's usually a constant load/current, which not at all like the loads we usually put them under in flight (ok, except for maybe chrisby or fletch doing freestyle), there is lots of potential for the pack and/or the leads to get very hot.

Glad to hear you caught it in time.. could have been expensive

Vince.

I only ever discharge at a max of 1A. Which is not alot when compared to some of the loads we put on the batteries. Anyway I'm up for a new charger and Dad's up for new flight packs at least. I know dad had some issues with one of his batteries before the Dalby comp and it took 3 cycles to get a full charge in one of them, not sure if it was the same pack. I don't use any NimH packs anymore just LiFe for Rx and Nicd's for ignition's, even my Tx batt is a Lipo. I was never a big fan of them after I used them in my little extra.

Hi All

Good to hear that you and your family are OK DOC, that's the main thing.

After about three months of trying to get a crankshaft for the (anchor) EVO300 that was in my 50% Hempel Edge, I've deceided to replace it with a 3W 275i B2 CS TS, an engine I should have started with in the first place. ( Thank you Ernie).
Over ten grand worth of engines to get it right, were does it all stop? or does it. The 60% Extra looks good. Will it fit in the Van I've got? Not a chance, do I buy a bigger van to pursue my love for the hobby or be happy with what I've got, time will tell.

Fletch, not sure if you are out there at the moment but if you are can you please send me the type of servo you upgraded the blade 400 to. I put it in a couple of days ago and just found I have lost a servo amongst the usual: spindle, sus, shaft....( suprisingly not blades ).......so time for an upgrade....I know you said you used Hihtech ones but Im not sure of the model....cheers Rob
On a better note I had just started to loop it the day before....got a bit over confident at ground level and rolled it in the next day....a good time to start to learn how to put this little unit together.......a few times...or more....
Hey Rob,

I'm running the HS56HB's on the cyclic and a HS81 on the Rudder. I opted for the larger servo on the rudder to get the balancing closer to perfect (helps alot in inverted stuff). Also make sure you run the rudder servo linkage on the closest hole to the output shaft of the servo.

Well done on your first loops. Best part about heli's is that they are like a buggy where if you have a ding you just replace the broke bits (most of the time, lol).

Have to get my Blade going now, haven't flown it in about 6 months.

Fletch
