EDIT: web site is playing up - should be fixed soon...
The link to the 2010 score program is fixed now so fill your boots. I'm sure someone will let me know if I've screwed it up

Hey rusty the best place for sse winds would be here point "B". "A" being strezleki car park where you were the other day. heaps more room there and you can walk down the hill a bit to keep away from the hang gliders might try and get out there myself and give the eazy fly ago

Hey Rhino,

just a quick question, we are about to run our first comp for the year this weekend. We have downloaded the 2010 score program, only just last night.

I have not had a chance to look at it yet and will not get to look at it prior to heading off for the comp in the wee dark hours of tomorrow morning. So can you give a quick heads up on any startling changes i need to be aware of prior to arriving at the comp tomorrow, installing it up before the first round of flying ????

Cheers,

Jeff

Ouch! Sorry to hear that Stephen. TNT make good legs, I had some before on a PA edge.

Hi Jeff

Yeah I've been busy getting the sequences, score sheets, judging guide and score program all updated in time for tomorrows Capel IMAC in WA.

This years score program has a few extra settings in the menus which control the look and feel of the program as well as the way scores are calculated and presented etc. The copy on the ASAA web site has been saved with settings which should be correct for the way ASAA comp's are run.

If the saved settings are correct then the score program should function exactly the same as it did last year. But if you find that things aren't working as expected then you will need to check the menus and work out what needs to be changed. It's not too complicated.

Best of luck for the weekend and please let me know if you need anything.

Cheers
Jeremy

Good morning Vince, Your old YAK still lives to fly again. I had not touched the H L needles since I bought it off you three years ago. Leaned the H end about 10 degrees and got a dead-stick, screwed up the glide approach, too slow, and it stopped flying 6' off the ground. Goes to show, if something is going OK, leave it alone. I have a new undercarraige on the way from Graph Tech. How are the 100% scale lessons going?

Hi Stephen

Glad to hear my old yak is ok. Yak's don't deadstick too well, big airbrake on the front doesn't help

The 100% scale lessons were going ok during the holidays, but slowed up now I'm back at work. Also having problems with the flying school's lack of aircraft availability, lack of aircraft serviceability (lost count how many times I've had problems with the radios), switching instructors on me all the time (and then each one wants to do revision as they don't know the student!). I switched from flying the decrepit C150's to slightly (but not much) 172N's so that also took some time to adjust to. The weather's not playing ball either, hot and turbulent most days makes flying less than enjoyable. Any sort of crosswind in Canberra makes conditions even worse, way too many office buildings/shopping malls/high rise car parks etc where there used to be an airport causing serious turbulence on short final

If there was another school in Canberra I would have looked at switching (they just put the prices up, $270 p/h for a 172!), but there's only one school, will just have to stick it out.

On the model side, I've mostly been flying my electric pattern planes and glider.

Vince.

Thanks Vince, you are too kind. I just screwed up my approach, my only excuse is that it all happens in a hurry. From what I hear, the flying training industry is currently in a very sorry state and it sounds like the local schools in your area have the market cornered. There was a very good school over at Goulburn years ago. CFI Mary O'Brian. Both poor Mary (RIP) and the quality now long gone. Sorry I don't have any suggestions as to an alternative. Canberra can be challenging with turbulence and cross wind, even in a heavy jet. It would be nice if you could find a school somewhere like Goulburn or Polo Flat. In the good old days there would have been schools on offer at most large satelite towns to Canberra. I believe that the current standard of training in other than VH registered aeroplanes is extreemly variable. Not always so good in VH either! There are quality instructors our there but you have to be careful to find one. Don't give up...

Sweet, I'm going to head out there in the morning. The forecast has changed to a SE at 26km/h, so I'll check out the launchpad and if thats no good I'll head up to hickson st.
