The engine is manufactured by XYZ in China nd re-badged as Turnigy which is Hobby City's own brand name.

Can't see it being a piston port, given that the carby intakes straight into the crankcase by the look of the pic. It would have to be reed valve or rotary valve.

You are correct. It's a rotary valve.

G'Day all,

Well Western IMAC is now run and done it was Great comp (albeit a little quiet compared to our normal numbers) Flown in some pretty challenging wind conditions.

Well done to the Scale Aerobatics Western Australia comittee in particular Steve Maitland (Mr Potato head) and Ben Cohen ( aka Frodo) for organising and running yet another smooth comp.

I would like to thank the Waneroo Areomodelling Club for hosting the event at their field and for making all of us IMAC Nomads welcome.

Lastly thanks to all who flew and well done to the placegetters.

Basic

1st John Mcleod
2nd Les Davidson
3rd Andrew Connor (I think)

Sportsman

1st Moi
2nd Gary Adams
3rd John Biglane

Advanced

1st Ben (frodo) Cohen
2nd Steve (Mr Potato Head) Maitland

Unlimited

Steve Coram

I will post some pics as they filter through.

cheers,

Jeff

Hey Ratso,

I always use at least 95 octane (Premium) but I mostly use the 98 octane fuels. Only run it in 50's and the 85 but if I had a hundy it would get the same fuel.

Thanks Rusty, for some reason I thought regular unleaded was the go in DA's. I think I'll mix the next brew with a bit more bang.

Same here with the SWAMPS competition , all run and won . We ended up with some pretty fine weather , that was apart from the time when a wind gust decided to pick up the judges tent and throw it on to the closest fence . One busted tent but on the plus side I got my table I left there last year .

There were no planes lost or damaged ans all seemed to enjoy the day . Sorry for it being made into a one day comp at short notice but I wanted every chance to get the numbers up but them's the breaks .

As for the flying its very obvious that the boys are getting their game faces on ready for the Masters . Over all the raw scores were looking healthy and Phil took the chockies again with the highest raw score of the day . This might be Dr Phil's swan song for Basic , thats two very high scores in a row , well done .

Results are as follows

BASIC
1st Phil
2nd Scott Bardney ( SWAMPS in a long way from home )
3rd Scott Ustick ( welcome back old man)

Sportsman
1st Daniel Mendoza (lefty)
2nd Sean Marson ( its not my plane )

Advanced
1st Stu ( at last )
2nd Barry Fox ( Mr unknowns )

Unlimited
Tony Driver ( I love Chris's plane )

Stuart Davies
Vic state rep/CD

Great to see comps ticking over all over Aussie

Had to head up to to a wedding for the last few days, tried to make the most of my days off with a lot of early morning flights to try and get the thumbs matched up with the ZN line for BM5.
No air strips up where i went , but i did manage to find this big ol dried salt lake. It was great, could take off, land and fly in any direction. Big thanks to the locals at Pt Broughton for letting me train on their moon.
Now have about 60 flights on the ZN line extra, having a ball with it! Just the practice i needed for BM5, early , cold and hung over for 3days straight weddings just don't seem to be one day these days

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but my understanding is that the compression ratio in a DA100 is such that it does not need 98 octane, and that the higher octane may just make it more prone to pre-detonation without any power advantage. Higher compression engines like zdz should enjoy 98.

I use 95 'cause I figure it usually sits around for a few weeks between flights and this leaves a bit of room if it drops its octane anyway.

I tend to use the same petrol station or at least brand to keep the brew more consistant, and have a mark on the fuel can that I fill to for consistant volume. (No, I don't bother about the outside air temperature, barometric pressure or carry a burette with me...)
