Default 50cc Aeroworks Yak QB

I plan to get this airplane about the start of June and was wondering if a 3W 60 motor would be a perfect match for this airplane because this is the only motor I have. I plan to put canisters on there to. Just let me know your thoughts.

You're looking at 19-20 pounds other than that it would be great.

The plane comes in at 16lbs dry with DA50 and MTW 75K canister. With a 3W 60 it should come in at about 18lbs or so. Then if you go with carbon fiber landing gear, tail wheel, wing tube, prop, well you get the picture, you might save about a pound or a little more. Here is the build thread on the one that Dad and I are flying. This is the best flying plane that I have yet to fly so far .http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=3319

From what I read the thing is almost 11 pounds out of the box. Coming in at 16 pounds with stock parts is very hard to believe. Just trying to be realistic here.

You should consider the Lanier planes instead. It's more perfectly matched for a 60 size plane.

Thanks for the response. I dont know how lanier is. The last lanier airplane I had was a Giant Stinger kit and the kit was a bad kit for sure. But they might have changed. Any videos of that plane. So far I still have my eyes on the aeroworks.

My dad weighed the plane and he was suprised that it came in at 16lbs too. We also have a Areoworks 50cc Katana and its suppose to come in at 16-18lbs and it only weighs 14lbs 8oz. with 5oz. of lead added in engine box for the CG. Here is a picture of the inside of the Yak....

Amazing how the planes can vary so much in weight. That or people don't have accurate scales. Glad yours is light though.

Hey Fearless flyer you need to get a new scale. Some are coming in at around 17# maybe a little lighter if you do all the mods .Most of them are around 18 to 18.5# this is no bullsh$# weight. You must have the lightest one out there I see no real weight reduction mods on your Dad's plane. Get a new scale. And You guys even add lead to your airplanes? Wow. I need to roll up my paints legs.

sadly, me too thinks there is a broken scale somewhere....

I find the 14lb figure for the Katana a tough one to take....

A member at my field has the AeroWorks Katana with DA 50 and it weighs at 18lbs and I have talked to other people that had them and there's where 17-18lbs also. As for the new Yak's I think they will be comming in at 16-18lbs also.
