Default Katana Resurrection

After losing my WH Sukhoi at FX3DII I must have looked pretty pituful. While sitting on the tailgate of the trailer removing the remains fellow FFAA bud VooDoo Child aka: Doug E Fresh offered me his recently legless Krill Katana to console my sorrow. Two weeks later I am now the proud owner of a very well used 33% Krill Katana that we agreed would make a good beater with minimum work.
Getting it home was the first challenge, it's a little bigger than anything I had hauled in my HHR before, creating new issue it's not gonna fit in the car when ready to fly. Having just installed a hitch on the HHR now I'm gonna have to buck up for a trailer. Started by taking some before pictures and cleaning everything then removing every decal so I could see all the damage that occurrred over it's lifetime. This airframe took everything VooDoo threw it into and that's a testament to the strength of the Krill design, he literally flew the s t out of it while pg on it with smoke oil. The snake oil get's into and onto everything making cleanup imperative if you want anything to stick together.
Doug I just can't resist, I must do it right and resurrect it in a proper way to honor it illustrious past. Plus I will give you the honor of the remaiden when I am done which will be a few months considering I am a poor bottom feeding hucker. Money for the new DL-111 that will reside up front won't be available for at least a month so don't lose patience.

Last night's work was mainly removing decals and cleaning. Then I proceeded to remove the stabs that were siliconed to the fuse. Dissambly coming along well and the stabs are off and ready for rework. Smoke oil has even soaked into the stab tube sockets, lots more cleaning with winde and denatured alcohol to follow.

I hear ya Donnie but me thinks it will be worth the effort and a showcase of my repair skilz. Lots of cosmetics more than structural repairs, the legs will be the worst of the work. Totally gonna re-engineer the legs to go with my bionic knee.

Pulled the rudder and decided to start at the rudder post and work forward. Removed a lot of excess epoxy and relieved an area under the FG that was cracked and repaired. The repair was not flush and looked bad so away I went.

Wally glad to see you hard at it on the Katana. Doug couldn't have given that plane to a nicer guy. Hope all goes well and you have it back in the air soon.

Richard are you just going to fly the Yak for now? It may take a while as I still have to work and also keep a plane in the air myself. Workin on the Extra 300's engine tonite, no zap, maybe a bad hall sensor. Do you have one I can borrow to test with? May be home tomorrow the way I feel right now.
