I've paid off some credit card debt, sold some rc stuff, and would like a new plane for this season. I don't want to spend a lot on the new plane though and was set on an Extreme Flight 88" Extra when I found out the shipping is $142 for a total of $792. Aeroworks charges $89 for their 50CC Extra and $720 total. So how can the shipping be much cheaper there? I do like the Extreme plane and if the wing bags are nice than it may be worth the extra $72, but for an extra $72 I could find nicer wing bags. Of course the EF comes with a canopy cover, carbon tubes, carbon tail gear, and an instrument panel. These things I really don't need and the AW 260 is already light without the carbon tubing. I'm sure most of you guys would probably prefer the EF plane.
By no means am I putting EF down, but why such a difference in shipping? People on ebay constantly hike up shipping charges and I'd rather see the actual cost up front. How can Aeroworks off such cheap shipping? One plus is that I'm not paying sales tax and shipping, lol. Sure I'm griping a bit because I'm on a budget and with the times a lot of us are. So if you guys could, convince me whether the EF is worth the extra. Thanks! |

Your going to find out that all of the aircraft manf or distributors all charge different prices. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and pay it. You mentioned that the EF was about $72.00 extra but it comes with wing bags.....that's about what a descent set goes for anyways.
Also....different companies ship their stuff in different ways , and crating methods....which some cost more. Going greyhound is cheaper than UPS and you will hardly ever get a damaged aircraft from greyhound.....but not very many companies can/ or have that way to ship. It depends on so many different variables. Just pick out the airplane you want and go for it! |

The amount quoted is actual charges via UPS...
if you have a business address that we can ship to, it can be significantly less expensive.

that is what i was going to suggest. commercial shipping addresses = lower shipping costs. i would see to it that you use a business address for your shipping destination. if you don't have one... us a buddy's! that will probably get you the break you are looking for.
by the EF!!! by the time you get to flying it and truly get to see how great it is... you'd agree to pay $250 for shipping!

The AW plane is nice but does'nt have much wing area and therefore does not fly very light even though the all up weight is less than the EF. On your first flight with the the EF,you will agree that the extra $72 was the best money you ever spent.

Wow, replies are coming in fast! I'm leaning more towards the EF as it'd be great to feel a light plane. With the extra wood in the EF for the longer length, the carbon is about the only way to bring it down to a good weight so I could think of it as paying extra for carbon.
So does AW ship greyhound to get prices cheap? What are most of you guys paying for shipping? Dang, I wonder if Tower Hobbies would ship a big plane for free if you're a super saver's member? If I'm really on a budget maybe I should go for a smaller plane from Tower? Hmm, I hate the idea as the EF seems really great.

The only way the actual shipping charges can be $142 is if the boxes are oversized. That's about what we usually pay to ship a 100cc plane, our 50cc planes will ship for around $70-75 from Texas to Pennsylvania. BY Greyhound we can ship a 100 cc plane for $110 to anywhere in the lower 48.
And we're happy to ship by Greyhound if that's the way the customer wants it. Don't believe everything you read, and less of it if you read it on the internet. I once had a car salesman add several hundred dollars on to the price of a car after the basic deal had been established. When I asked what that was for he said very officially "Oh that's just the APO" as if that's attached to all deals like closing costs and documentation fees. I pressed him to define APO and he finally admitted it mean "Additional Profit Opportunity". Sometimes inflated shipping costs are just APO. Tom Fawcett Wild Hare Hobbies, Inc. |

You know.....since Tom from Wildhare just posted here , i have to put in big props to him and his shipping....not to mention the quality of his aircraft too! he shipped me a 35% WH sukhoi through grey hound that was cheaper than if i was to of bought a 33% or 35% from Chief aircraft....which is only 3 hours away. And Tom shipped it from Texas! As far as that goes Pieper....i'd check into some wildhare aircraft as well. The cost on his aircraft are extremely competitive along with excellent quality on construction , and i've owned a few of the other brands too. Tom builds an awesome product.

Here in PR we have to pay like $350 for 100cc planes and like 400-500 for 40% airplanes. I won't even get into Comp-ARF shipping prices.
Only two companies that I have seen or purchased planes from that have decent shipping is Wildhare and PAU. Tom shipped my 40% for about $240 from Texas to PR and it was here in 4 days. My buddy just purchased a 40% Edge from PAU and they charged him I think $223 to ship from Washington state, but its gonna take about 3 weeks. lol I wish I could pay 70-100 dollars for shipping on a 100cc planes.
