That's funny that Extreme Flight has posted that if going to a residence is will be significantly more expensive than going to a business address. It doesn't mention that anywhere on their website AND when they called me to answer my question about shipping costs they never mentioned that on the phone either. I gave them my zip code and I was quoted a price of 140 dollars with no mention of a cheaper alternitive. I think they might sell more planes if that was mentioned to customers. I reluctantly went with a Hangar 9 Yak that the LHS cut me a deal on.By the way I do not mean to bash on EF, I am an EF fan and have the OUTLAW and am waiting on the 58" red, white and blue Extra to come back in stock.

Just like getting stuff shipped to Japan. Wildhare and AirWild has been good to me on shipping prices.

I thought I'd probably go for the EF, but I'm about to drop the dough on a Wild Hare Edge 540 at $615 with hardware kit and shipping. Yeah, it's more than the dawghouse yak, but I trust wild hare a bit more as I haven't heard much about dawghouse. I just called Wild Hare and he said about $75. That was the second plane I've been drooling at. It's about the same weight and wing area as the EF Extra, just a shorter fuse. That might be okay though as I can shut the tailgate on my truck with the 540.

I care more about performance and durability though as number one so I want a plane that'll take a slightly rough deadstick in the tall grass if needed. I'm not sure if that'd be the WH or EF.

It is strange though that EF is so expensive on shipping. Yeah the crating is extra and a really nice touch, but if everyone else is using sturdy cardboard boxes than maybe that'd be better to save on shipping.

By going with WH I'd save around $177, that'd be enough for me to put towards batteries, a reg, and still have more for a canister.

WOW, and how about $600 for shipping guys. Dang!

Good move Piper Cub. Tom at Wildhare offers great service and really nice planes. I bought a 35% Extra from him in Nov. The shipping was 100.00 and it arrived in 3 days. Keep us posted on your new Edge!

You'll like the W/H Edge very much. I fly one with some guys that fly E/F Yaks. Both have attributes that the other wants, bot nobody has had a bad thing to say about the way my Edge flies.

If you want to see high shipping cost
Check out the 3dhs 50cc slick $160.00
They must add a few bricks in the box with it.

And to me you can tell when you are getting ripped off on shipping
when it's one charge to go any where
The company I work for ships 100's of packages a day
and deals with ups fedx dhl and many others
We don't get a flat rate

I would trust greyhound more than air or BAX Global.. I was travelling quite a bit and after only the fuse arived for my QQ Python, I called 4 or 5 days later to see where the wings were.. I luckily got through to someone that worked on the receiving at the airport. He remembered that the wind was blowing when it was being unloaded off of the plane and the wing box fell off and was ran over by truck. Instead of delivering it, they threw it out and just delivered the fuse.- Guess they were hoping that I wouldn't notice. QQ was good and sent me out a new set of wings right away.

Just an FYI, UPS or Fedex put a limit of 130" for total length plus girth. Anything over this incurs a $50 penalty plus the boxes are charged by dimensional weight. That's why box size is so important and why a 100cc plane is so much more expensive. All our 50cc size boxes come in just under the limit.

A little planning goes a long way in business.

I went for the 88" Edge guys and am getting the economy canister. Thanks Tom for your help and patience. Tom probably thinks I'm a whacky guy though because when I called him I was about to fall asleep from being tired, had to double check my new phone number, I had a puppy steal my credit card and run off to hide it while I'm on the phone about to give out my card number, couldn't remember which credit card was finally updated to a new address and which one wasn't, and I am so used to giving out my old address I went to give out my old one for a split second for shipping. I promise I'm not the most disorganized person.

So, I'm going to be making a spot on my workbench for the new bird while I wait for it too come. My fingers are crossed and I'm hoping for a nicely handled and unabused box to come my way. I will be doing a build thread on this bird as I haven't seen a thread on the new Edge. I will include a flight video and report.

I'm especially interested in the idea of using a canister, being that I've never had a can before nor have I ever tried the new cheaper one. I'm sure it'll be a nice can and hold up to time as with modern technology it seems like there's a lot of people who can find a way to make a metal canister and do it cheaper than per say K&S. I haven't seen a thread on the new cans, have seen some talk though so that'll be a big part of the thread.

Look for the thread sometime today!

Also I would like a big IMAC plane sometime so I have plans for the big 105" 260 from Tom in the flame scheme. I'd love to see the flame scheme on the 50cc 260 though as that's more on my budget level. However, I've been wanting to see how smooth a twin would be so I may go for a DL111 for next year and Hitec 7955s as they're getting so much cheaper and proving to be an awesome performance minded choice while staying on budget without going any cheaper! That'll be next year and hopefully I'll be able to keep the Edge to afford the next one.

Is it safe to assume the flame scheme will stay in production so we can still order it next year? I want to double check because I've admired that flame scheme for the last three years, but couldn't afford it still being in college.

The flame scheme is quite popular so it should remain available.

Regarding a smooth twin, if you want smooth you want the TMM-106, not the DL. I have DL-100s on 2 planes, and while I like the engine and it runs well, smooth is not one of the words I'd use to describe it.

The TMM-106 is way ahead of the rest of the pack for smoothness, you can see this as soon as you start the engine, it will idle down to about 1400 rpm and will sit there with almost nothing moving on the plane, and it's smooth all the way up to full power.

WOW, TMM-106 sounds great. I'm going to look up some info on it. I wouldn't want to get a DL twin with high hopes only to be disappointed on the smoothness of it.

Getting back to shipping charges I suspect most companies just pass along the actual charges of the shipping companies. We use both Bax Global and Old dominion freight lines. The cost to the customer is the actual cost we pay for ths shipment. We also pass along our shipping discount to the customer. WH is correct when he says charges vary by the size and weight of the boxes. Also the location of the manufacture can make a big difference in shipping cost. Why do you think GP and Horizon are in the midwest!!

Our plane can not go grayhound as they are too big and greayhound will not accept them.

I also believe that as Manufactures we all look for the shipping compaines and ship with the one who handles our products with the least amount of problems or damage. Most shipping companies that I am aware of charge extra for home deliveries. Bax charges an additional $30 and ODFL charges an additional $50 but there rates change with location. They claim its due to not being able to use the large trucks for home delivery.

I think you could be sure that any manufacture out there would ship it the most cost effective way if we all knew who could/would do it and do it with out any damage at a reasonable price.

I am pretty sure we all want our customers feeling good about there purchase and the ability of the company to get it to them in a timely and cost effective manner.

thanks for letting me ramble!!
