jim... i'm sure they are typically less than that. mine is set up pretty simply with a single 5955 on each control surface, a manual choke, a 3w106 w/ stock muffs, a nimh power box with 3 nimh 6 cell packs and my ar 9000 rx... it weighs just a tad over 25. it was just under until i changed wheels and put some actual battery mounts in... this plane is insanely light in the air. people have over used the "flies like a foamy" phrase but it really does apply here!

Hey Rusty,
here's my twenty cents worth... Take the wing off the 260 and fix it to the Yak Fuz and you'll be unbeatable. They both have there good points and bad points respectively but the only thing i dont like so much about the yak is the fat wing chord. If you are used to snaping and spinning an extra it WILL take you a little time to make the adjustment.Obviously the higher up the ranks you go the more the upline elements will appear. This is just one of the places the 260 will prevail and has a slight advantage over the Yak. Just my opinion though. Kia |

Rusty, the problem with the Yak is getting the CG just right. If it is a little tail heavy it simply will not lock in nicely (actually makes it a pig to fly IMAC), a little too far nose heavy and they dont present the spin or snaps very well for the higher classes.
The c-of-g sweet spot is very small if it is there at all. I preferred to fly my Yak slightly nose heavy, this made it track like it was on rails, but I wouldnt like to have had to snap it too often. The Yak would be my choice up to Intermediate but once you hit Advanced and above the extra's are the go for snapping manouvers. Dont worry about needing pipes, I know of somewhere you can get a great deal on a 3W 106CS with 3W headers and cannisters ![]() . Will give adequate performance in any of the 3 airframes you have mentioned.

Jim, my 2.6 CARF Yak is just at 28 lbs. I have both the yak & extra, but fly the yak in IMAC. Seems to me to fly slower on down lines, and i need all the time i can get! It did take some getting used to doing snaps with it, but not really a problem once you figure it out. I never had any issues with spins. My cg is on the wing tube with the canopy off. I fly sportsman & dont have any verticle snaps to deal with. I have had it going on 4 years now. Da-100, MTW-75s, PT 28-10 prop, or Mej 25-12-3. LI-ions. I'd get another one when this one dies.....Gene

I've been playing around with a 2.6 Yak I picked up from a friend. I installed 9156 all around (2 per aileron, 2 on rudder, 1 per elev). I reduced the weight to 26 lbs flat.the plane never really flew well in yaw and was twitchy and inconsistent.
I decided to remove the stock pull-pull and install a single 9157 futaba in the tail on a short pushrod. The plane instantly flew better all around! 10 times the plane it was on pull-pull. Now you can use the rudder any way and you never see the tail twitch. I'm very satisfied with the result. Next though, I want to try the 26x12 on it. Thx Jim Last edited by Jim Woodward; 05-14-2009 at 12:10 PM. |
