EMHW 2m Funtana, but not really...

Hi,

my second post on the forum (I'll stop mentioning that, now...), hope I choose the right subforum.

Here's a little project I'm working on, please feel free to comment. A little history: someone mid-aired his EMHW Funtana, dumped the fuse but kept the wings. Then built a new fuse, but never finished it. The someone bought the fuse and wings, to use the wings on his own crashed EMHW Funtana. Sold the fuse to someone else. Then I bought it from that last person, taking on the project. And yes, it is a project!

I bought a wing-set and some servo mounting sets from Flugwerf:








And then, finally, the rebuild can start:














I did make a start on the wings on a spare afternoon:


But the fuse has the priority:




On the Dutch forum there is some discussion about the fact that I moved the wing 21mm forward, and fit this non-original wing set which means the CG moves about 11mm forward, too. I'm not too worried about that, if the tail would be too heavy, I would like that; I prefer to fit all 3 rudder and elevator servos pull-pull under the cockpit anyway, while the design calls for them to be under the tail.

Here's a little progress on the wings.

I glued on the nose and the rear of the wing:



And the root-rib, which I fixated while the lot was on the tube, properly fitted to the fuse. So everything will line up. The rib set I bought is from a Flugwerf 2m Funtana, which is close to the EMHW, but not identical. Fitting the root rib conform the Flugwerf plans would have resulted in the rib not being parrallel to the fuse side:



And I'm considering my options for the airleron linkage. The ribs are prepared to have the servos fitted (2 openings, I plan on using only the inner one):



I think it's possible to route the linkage through the rear wall of the wing, and keep is all (almost) invisible within the thickness of the wing. That's the idea. I found the idea here:

But more info is greatly appriciated. Especially how the control rods are connected to the airleron itself I would be very interested in.

WoW, a 10 lb fuse, that would have flown nice. Looking good by the way. You've got your work cut out for you.

I got a major tee hee out of the elevator, the leading edge not even airfoiled, Classy. Mad props to you, I woulda used it as kindling ( fire starters).

@Vic3D; yep, large parts out of 1/4" builder's ply. When removed the weight of the fuse halved!
@Plaster93; sorry, it's metric, 1.043 grams. About 2.3 lbs.
@260Hucker; well, most of it would have ended up in the fire place if I had one! I really like these projects, especially when others have tried and failed.

I really like this project since I'm on a financial bad-streak (nothing serious, just not much hobby money) and I can spend many hours using just hobby ply and some glue. I did buy the rib set completely machined, for 30 quid I couldn't do a better job myself.

Anyway, it's back to the drawing board for me on the airleron servo mounting, I'll post more when available.

Tonight I did a little 'engineering' on the airleron servo idea:



The servo hole is already in the rib, the rest of the drawing is schematic but accurate. As you can see, this movement would allow for an up-swing of 63 degrees, and down-swing of 40 degrees. Servo arm is 25mm (about an inch) and so is the distance from the hing point to the linkage. With a little end-point setting on the TX or with digital servos, I'd be in business, right?

Well, not too much progress, but a nice pic anyway:



Wings ar comming together, fuse needs some cross bracing and a turtle deck. My wife is working on her first scale project; I donated some glue about seven months ago and in a little under two months, a scale model of a person should appear. Now you know where my hobby funds went... Boy, the kid isn't here, yet, and already it costs plenty!!
