AERO-U “How to become a better Aerobatic pilot” Instructor: Frank Noll Jr. Due to the increase in IMAC membership and contests, I’ve decided to start an instructional aerobatic school here in Champaign, Illinois. You’ll be able to learn from over 30 years of aerobatic competition in pattern, the Masters, the TOC and the Tucson Shootouts. The courses comprise of 2 days of instruction packed with flying so be prepared with a plane, a lot of fuel and chargers. The course is concentrated on IMAC style planes and flying, but not restricted to them. We will be flying at a private grass airstrip with no one else around but the students. No issues with finding air space, as the field is oriented to fly with the sun behind you all day long and you’ll be able to fly more than 1 at a time. If you wish to team up with some of your friends to feel more comfortable, that's welcomed. The course fee is $400.00/person for the 2 days with a 50% deposit for reserving your spot. Class starts at 8:00 on Saturday morning, and will continue till you’re worn out, or out of gas and batteries!!! The classes will be limited to 4 people for the weekend, so you won’t have an issue with not getting a chance to fly and learn. Here are the available dates, and are booked on a first come first served basis:\ April 11-12, 2009 April 25-26, 2009 May 23-24, 2009 May 30-31, 2009 July 11-12, 2009 July 25-26, 2009 (Additional later dates will be provided as needed) Directions, hotel accommodations and other info will be provided upon reserving your spot. Some of the topics to be covered: - Aircraft set-up (controls, CG, equipment, linkages etc) - Proper aircraft Trimming - Presentation for better scoring (positioning/ distance etc.) - Prop/engine combinations for flying styles - Maneuver instruction (Geometry, spacing, distance etc.) - How to execute the maneuvers correctly (spins, snaps, rollers etc) - Learning Aresti and the latest updates ( if needed ) - How to get the best scores - Contest preparation (practice) - Overall Critiquing of flying and tips for improvement If you’re interested in attending one of these weekend courses, either PM me or send me an email to: f.noll@comcast.net

Awesome! I think this is a great opportunity for IMAC'ers and anyone really interested in aerobatics to further their skills, weather that be understanding maneuvers, geometry, visualization, dealing with pressure, or just polishing their skills in front of a pair of critical eyeballs. A learning environment like this is hard to come by! One thing for sure, if there is an open date, I'll be there
![]() I have been so lucky as to have guidance from Frank in the past. He has openly offered advice on everything from "don't forget the bug spray" to "it will score better if you do it this way" Having him as a friend is priceless and I try my best to treat it that way. I'm still a newbie to the IMAC scene, but as I look back at how far I have come with guidance from Frank and others, it is absolutely amazing. Listen, watch, and learn, you will not regret it one bit! By the way, this field is fantastic! Fly all day without the sun in your face, tons of room to work with different wind conditions, by far my favorite site in Illinois. -Chris Sydor |

This is a great opportunity to learn from the best...
I have offered to come out to one of the training camps and help with the Aresti stuff, and how to present a properly flown figure and what the judges are looking for. If you havent taken part in a 'camp' type session before, this is a great way to learn. Everyone is there to support you, but also push you and make you want to try even harder. It really helps spark the competitor in you to be around other pilots flying well. By the end of each day, your brain is mush.... I may even bring a plane and sign up for a weekend myself. |

There's a lot more to the course than just learning new things, or refreshing some forgotten tips! The fact that everybody in attendance has the same desire and are into the same thing (aerobatics ), enables everyone to gain from each others enthusiasm.

The interesting thing here is that once I started doing training camps with a coach, thats when I started excelling at competitions. If you want to get better, this is a sure fire way to do it. One on one training with coach, critique and setup is by far the best and fastest way to figure this stuff out. You'll be able to go to your first contest and behead and shoulders above the rest. However, it all depends on how serious you are with flying. It's a few bucks, but... its going to save a few gallons of gas and maybe even a plane learning on your own. My guess is that Basic and sportsman and intermediate flyers will excel the most.....

Cool idea Frank! I know that I have improved my flying skills tons by coming over and flying with you at your field. I also learned a lot about how to call maneuvers for people which helped me in that I could teach my caller to call better which helps me directly. Great job, hopefully I can help in some way.
