So I was researching for a new engine on my 60-90 plane and ended up making a generic operation cost calculation for the similar capacity engines and thought I might share with everyone just for Shi*t's and Giggles.
I compared the below listed engines on the attached file. Benchmark Glow Engine OS61FX OS91FX Saito FA115 Saito FA125 Comparison Gas Engine Saito FG-20 Evolution 26GX Zenoah G-20 Here was the result (based on running a 450cc tank $22/gal for Glow and $4/gal for Gas) Saito FG20 vs OS61 never before 100 flights vs OS91 never before 100 flights vs FA115 after 97 flights vs FA125 after 83 flights Evolution GX 20 vs OS61 never before 100 flights vs OS91 never before 100 flights vs FA115 after 60 flights vs FA125 after 46 flights Zenoah G-20 vs OS61 after 94 flights vs OS91 after 69 flights vs FA115 after 9 flights vs FA125 from the 1st flight Some of the ultra low priced gas engines out there were not included like RCS SV engines. Those engines go below $200 so it may be worth doing more research!! Considering the price of Glow Fuel, transition from glow to gas on smaller size plane might not be a bad idea after all... If they start making them lighter, it would seem to be the way to go. |

Don't forget the cost of paper towels and glow plugs in your calculations for the glow planes.
