Default Clearview (CV) for rolling harrier

HI, I am trying to learn a 'rolling harrier' for more than a month using Clearview simulator. Unfortunately, I am not getting anywhere so far and it is so desperate. Definitely, my fingers are 99% faulty. However, I am wondering whether I picked up the right simulator for this manuever. Anybody who has an experience on rolling harrier in Clearview? Is it good to learn or bad? Before I spend another months, I like to have some level of comfort or (trust) on the simulator. Thanks.

Self answered

After about 10 hours of hard training with Clearview during last weekend, I had a small step toward the rolling harrier.. It seems like the Clearview might be ok for learning the rolling harrier. Let's see how it will go next...

Here is a snap shot of my attempt during last Saturday...

Glad to see you made progress! I also have Clearview and i'm getting into a lot of 3-D now. I'll be in your boat over the winter. I'm hoping that by spring, i'll have enough stick tim on the sim to have a decent chance at performing some basic maneuvers with my 330L

Do you have any suggestions on a good foamy? Preferably within a budget of around $150 for the ARF, not including the electronics. I have quite an assortment of electric motors, ESC's, servos and props built up over the years so i'm alright in that department.

I like the tufflight bouncer and they're only $79 + S&H. They are pretty indestructible so you can throw them around without fear.

What airplane are you using for the field practice? While foamies are good, being able to cut the motor tend to make it harder if you are beginning. This will tend to lose your forward momentum. If you can program in the high idle, for learning purposes, it would make your learning easy.

Also, if you get a foamy, having a bit of mass helps to even out a bit of bad stick input. Instead of trying to learn it cold, try to break it down to components.

Start from high alpha knife edge (same speed all the time), try to roll 90deg to eiter upright harrier or inverted harrier. This will teach you the amount of correction needed maintain flight. While doing the transition, pay attention to the tail height/angle. If it settles higher(less angle) then add more correction etc.

The idea is to learn individual rudder or elev correction to transition to next attitude. If you do that to all four orientation, it will be easier to start locking the aileron and start adding the corrections. This all assumes you know how to do precision rolls, which are leaned same way.

While not as robust as the above mentioned foamy, I find the ParkMaster extremely easy on HighAlpha K-E flight. This translates to easier breakdown of rolling harrier and practice the 4 parts with it.

Chumley, thank you!! These look like just the ticket! I'll buy two and have at it until the spring. With a little luck, i'll gain enough stick time to the point where I won't mind spending a few C notes on a decent balsa/covered model.

LOL

I only saw the last post, which was in the lastest topic.

But, it applies to the newbies, so not all is lost.
