The John Nelon(X-RATED) EDGE 540 3D Machine

Well someone said it couldn't be done but I just built an 42% Edge 540 in 10 days, start to finish. Yes it is an Aerotech Generation III 540 EDGE. It's longer in the nose and longer in the tail. Nelon wanted a scale vertical so that's what he got. I have more pics of the build if anyone wants to see them. I didn't do a build thread for obvious reason plus I didn't need to be slowed done.I was on a mission and I'm about to start another Dalton thread with two 260's. I'll let Nelon tell everyone about his new bird. Rob

First off, Rob, you are the man! 10 days! This plane is a work of art thanks to Rob.

I used to own the first generation and had it for many years. I always liked the way it would 3d. I lost mine at the very first TC3D down here in Florida last year. It was a sad day for me. I waited awhile looking at other Edges, but recently decided that i would go with another Aerotech. There are quite a few changes in this plane than my original. First off was the construction of the airframe. Everthing is now interlocking with lighter wood. The last 3rd of the wings are cored like swiss cheese with a crapload of heavy duty carbon fiber for strength. The rudder is 100% scale to the airframe and its an inch longer in the front and the back. Rob along the way has incorporated alot of his building techniques and changes into the entire airframe. My last one was built heavy with 3/32 sheeting all over while this one is 16th everywhere except the fuse sides only. My old edge was a 44 lb plane with a DA150 on cans. This one im hoping will come out around 38lbs with a DA150 and a set of RE3's. We will see and I will keep you posted if anyone would like to know. It will be at the Nall this year and my good friend Clint Sweet will be doing another one of his airbrush masterpieces on the hatch and cowl again for me. Thank you again Rob! You are the man!

I'm in the process of building two 260's. Both will be complete before the Nall. A matter of fact, I just came in to take a 10 minute break. Back to the shop for another hour or so. Can't wait tell the Nall. Camp Canada will be in full swing. Rob

10 days? It took me 10months to build my 35% Edge G1........And since it had an "incident" its been 36months and its finally ready to be re-maidened.

Rob---you will build my next plane....though that might be a few years before I have another kit in the 40% range.

Hey Monty! Post #4 lists most of the changes. Most of the construction inside is different from yours. I will take that challenge. Just let me get some time with her first.

Any time Rob at Camp Canada, We have great Diggs this year! I really hope we can keep this thread on track, this looks like a fabulous Airframe, John's covering skills along with Clint's paint, should really be "Sweet"
