Hey guys I am setting up my 42% Aerotech Yak 54. In the manual it says to set teh elevator throws at 1/2" up/down for mild. This equates out to about 10 degrees of deflection. Really not noticable. When I double it and go to 20 degrees I can see that it has some deflection. I am wondering what most of you use when setting up your throws on your 40% planes.
The plane will not be tail heavy so I am not too worried about it being too sensitive in the elevators. If you need pictures I will get some tonite and post them. LJ

I'd setup up at least 2 rates. Typically I use 3 rates on my 10x. Takeoff of the maiden is done at midrates so there is some wiggle room if needed. Also I add it some expo with that as well.
Once you get it up high switch back to low rates. Then fly a few rolls/snaps/loops/knife edge etc and see where you want each control surface by switching through your rates. But that is just about where I set my throws at on low rates, to start with anyway.

Sweetpea. Yea I plan on having at least 2 rates set. I just didn't think that the 1/2" on the elevator would be effective. The High on it is supposed to be at 1 1/4in. I do have over 50 degrees of throw on the elevators ( 3D rates ) and about the same on the ailerons. I will post some pics tonite. to show the bevels and how far each surface can move.

For IMAC, mine don't move much. Though I'm not sure what degree they are at currently. I'd fathom a guess at 12, but that would only be a guess. I do know I have more expo down than up as I tended to push harder when inverted.
If you are doing 2 rates, then its simple........set it up for 10 and then for say 25-35. That should give you 2 good ranges. You'll know then if your ok.

12 degrees is pretty typical on the elevator for IMAC or just flying around.

DO NOT fly first flight on anything higher than 12 degrees.
