Hi I am looking at two systems, the TME and Sullivan skywriter for a saito 1.00. Just curious how much added weight can you expect from installing these and if anyone has any comments between the 2. Thanks

You can't go wrong with either of those pumps. They both work well.

I'd say closer to 1/2-1lb of extra weight.
There are ways to save. You can inject the smoke at the top of the muffler. It won't heat up as much but it will still smoke. Keep your flow on the lower end to not waste as much fluid. Use a 20oz or smaller water bottle/soda bottle for the smoke tank. I think 200cc is a bit large (I'm sure TD meant 20oz). For the battery you can use the smallest possible. This may mean using a Lipo instead of NIMH/LION/A123, just be careful with placement and charging. The switch can be a liteweight one without a charge jack as well. So now about your question......I prefer the Sullivan. Its easy to mount on the firewall (so any leaks if they occur are on the outside of the plane). It also has an ESC built in so you can control the flow. You'll find that even at full throttle you won't use but half of the ESC speed mixed to throttle. This means less cleanup and less wasted smoke oil that doesn't burn off

Hi sweetpea...
Well you are right If you want to invest in something lite weight then it will cost more i guess and will be worth it. As for a smoke pump, I am with sweetpea on the Sullivan sky writer, but if you want to save weight then you can save it by taking the TME, the Sullivan has the case that weights too.

I'm running the Harris Comp smoke pump (2.2 oz), 18 fluid oz tank (full is about 0.8 lbs). Throw in an oz (or two) for tubing, check valve and filter and you' got about 1 lb total weight with a full smoke tank. The Comp pump plugs directly into the Rx and runs off the Rx battery (I'm using a single A123 2300mAh).
Doesn't get much lighter than that and makes excellent smoke. ...and I've got it programmed WAY back from full flow.Earle |
