Honestly the 2.7m Panzl was one of the best planes I had I just didn't know it as I didn't have that much experience at the time. My buddy Gordon from Calgary is flying it in IMAC still. It has a LOT of time on it now... 2 full IMAC seasons. I'm not sure how many flights but its got to be 500+ by now.

Since the Panzl I have had a bunch of "expensive" airplanes. Most of them flew/fly worse than the Panzl. The only one that has been as good is the 3W Extra 330 40%. In 40% the Panzl would be AMAZING. What is the wingspan of the 40% prototype?

One benefit of an "ugly" plane is that people don't continuously bug you coming over to drool on it LOL. And its not an Extra or a Yak... LOL.
Chris,

Its right in the 126/127" range. Basically I have to make a cowl and cover it.

Chris, I don't know how many times I read your build thread over on RCU! Your plane came out very nice. I wish I had built mine as fast as you did, but I had finishing problems. I had Monokote that didn't stick and I made the mistake of ordering color matching Neslon WBPU - which didn't and was a true PITA to use. In fact it someone posted a picture of John Klatts plane on your thread. That's what inspired me to do mine in that scheme.

Here's mine, it needs some graphics but I'm not sure what i should put on it. It sure does fly great. It is my best flying plane. I followed Al's recommendations on set-up and it flew better on the first flight than my other models after weeks of trimming.

Cool deal Jeff!

Man I tried Nelson paints this winter too. Its easy to work with and nice cause you can paint inside, easy to clean etc... but I can't make it stick to anything! Not even the Epoxy primer they provide.

I used to paint RC cars really well. I have airbrushes, mini guns etc... all the gear. I cannot paint RC planes to save my life. Its BRUTAL, I sand, fill, sand, get it all perfect, prime it , lay on a really nice finish and if I tap it it just unadheres and peels away. Nothing safe to spray in the house seems to work... I've tried a few other brands too. The paint itself is durable but it just won't stick! I have learned the hard way that you really do have to use PPG or something heavy duty and toxic has heck. Maybe I just suck at surface prep... I don't know... I need lessons LOL. I had all these projects in mind this winter and painting issues really held me back.

I like to build but if you can't paint you can't build...

On the plus-side I figured out how to do super light-weight pattern glass work, silkspan, Japanese silk etc. Once I figure out how to paint I am done with covering - even on the big stuff. Its a lot of work but you can do light glass and paint with a very minimal weight gain (which can easily be accounted for with some CF goodlies and some strategic lightening up elsewhere.)

Off topic sorry

Believe me we had our own fair share of problems with the paint! Between not adhering and bad color matching, not to mention the lead times on the paint This plane would have been completed a lot sooner if it weren't for the paint.

Looking good!

Of course I'm biased, I love Staudachers/Panzls anyway. Good job on the build!

Thanks Ryan. I think the Stauds / Panzl's are sexy. Besides, you just can't find anyone that thinks the Radiowave Panzl is anything but a great flying plane. I think I made a good choice.

A couple of years ago I watched Jeeum fly his 35% Panzl equipped with a DA-100 W/cans. I was completely blown away watching this airplane fly! He started out with flying IMAC then went to 3-D down on the deck. After reading this thread I realize that all this time and thinking about which airframe I should choose for my next project and looking at all the EXTRAS and YAKS and SUKHOI"S watching all the vids on how well they fly, I've really been comparing them to the PANZL. Now that I realized that....... I think I will order one for myself and enjoy it.... Sometimes it takes time to come to your senses LOL.....

Trust me guys the PANZL has always been my personal favorite plane, but as a manufacturer the plane was never a hot seller. The thing is that everyone that owns one loves it. Maybe it the scheme but I have almost givin up trying to market the plane.

I trully belive most planes are bought on looks and what people percive as the hot ticket. All our planes have been designed on quality and performance before anything. All our planes are designed for IMAC. if it IMACS it will 3D. The PANZL does both great in my opinion.

If you are really interested in seeing a 40% or more 35% let us know.

Jeff you did a fantastic job on the build and the scheme is great

Al
