i think that much of the "lack of everybody" flying this size of plane has less to do with desire and more to do with funding capabilities. i mean heck, these things are a TON of cash to have flight ready! to many though, it is worth every penny and i certainly wouldn't want to deny them the satisfaciton of owning one if it fits their budget.

As with most things, the reason they have not been flown before is the technology was not there. With the advents of reliable and powerful electronics and the engines that are now produced just for large planes, we are seeing the envelope being widened of what is available.
Harrys, you sure are opinionated, and you know what they say about opinions. If you do not like the bigger size planes, so be it. I believe this thread is not about whether they are to large but about this particular aiplane and people's interest in it. If you want to discuss the fact that planes are getting to large, then start a new thread. Don't flame this one. Wait a minute, isn't this site call FLYINGGIANTS.COM Yea, I think it is. Just my .02 cents The bottom line is there was not a market for this size plane, it would not be manufactured. That is the beauty of capitalism.

Hello everyone
I have ordered one of these big beasts. Putting in a 3w 240 on cans in it. Must have one Ulti to fly with while im building my 200 inch/92% Ultimate, take a H9 46% x 2, simple as that. Best regards from Norway, Europe, Land of the Vikings

I would LOVE to have one of these huge beasts, but I am completely happy with my H9 Ulti. It took me almost a year to have this one flight ready. I really believe everyone would rather watch and fly larger planes if they can afford it. I can not afford to spend anymore money for now, so 46% is as big as I can go. It flies awesome, I can only imagine a bigger one would fly better.

Hey SVeinErikRiis, please post pictures of your ultimate when you get it. Seems cool! Can you please do a buildthread on one of these? Hope all goes well. Good luck with your 92% ultimate, sounds cool. Take care!

Not that bips are my thing but big planes are fantastic and the bigger the better , LOL .
I have love the way the larger planes fly and present in the air but safty is always a concern . We just have to keep an eye out for who gets their hands on these things and to make sure they know how to fly such a plane . Stu

SOme of you guys are blowing this size thing W A Y out of proportion. For starters, how many of you that are bashing this or any 50-60%+ plane ever actually seen one? I doubt anyone of you, come on the 40% Yak is 129" ws and is large, the 50% edges are @ 146" ws and are slightly larger than the yak. If you have ever stood next to a full scale ulti or pitts s1 you would understand that this plane is still relatively small. The 40% TOC Pitts M-12 has a 110" ws and is a big bipe, how come you guys are complaining about that one. I think that the bashers are just plain pissed cause they cant have one. The 70% Staudacher flew just fine and it was over 400lbs. I didnt hear a soul complain about that one. They have been flying larger scale planes across the pond for many years with little issue.

fly what you like and let others do the same....simple as that. the restricitons and regulations put on the big ones in the waiver process are more than enough to encourage and enforce a safety standard that would blow away the standards that most glow fuel pilots employ!

3W makes motors as large as 684cc... they have to go into SOMETHING!!
The European market doesn't have the same 55lb limit that the AMA has imposed in the US.. the giant scales over there are really giant! |

I have also bought one of these beautiful Ultimates. And like Svein Erik Riis, I will fit a 3W 240cc on cans in it. I just lost my H9 Ultimate during hover, the engine stopped, and that was it. The Blazing Wings Ultimate is not that much bigger. Only 8 percent. As for costs, I do not know what is considered expencive in USA, but here in Norway we pay the double of what you pay for engines, servos, airframes etc. That is why I buy all I can get my hands on, from the US and A
![]() The BW Ultimate cost the same as the H9 Ultimate, I sold my 150 from the H9, I buy a used 240 for the money I got from the 150, and I buy 4 extra aileron servos. That's it. That's how much more expencive the BW Ultimate is, compared to the H9, for me. As for weight limits,in Norway we have a weight limit at 330lbs. That's a big model airplane. I have learned the last 6 years, that the bigger plane, the better it flies, and better means easier, to me. People often say, it flies like a trainer, well, I don't think a trainer flies as well as a 40%. But you have to have the experience, and not just the moeny. I will do a full build/assembly thread here at the FG, when the plane is ready. If anyone has a 240cc 3W, or know if anyone wants to sell one, please let me know, as I have not got the engine yet. If anyone starts a build thread before I do, I still hope I can join in, and share my experiences along the way.
