I needed to cut in some cooling holes and the exhaust exits. I started by making templates in heavy card stock and cutting them out with a sharp exacto. I then transfered them over onto the fuselage. If you look close you can see the measuring marks. I then used a router to cut out the holes and then sanded to the final shape. Anytime you cut into a composite fuse you need to add carbon roving around the cut outs to retain the strength of the structure. Cut the roving to length and then spot glue it with thin ca to hold it in place. I then use 30 minute epoxy to wet it out. Adds a ton of strength and very little weight.

Wow mark, Got some good ideas from you on the aileron modification. I hope to make it as clean as you did. Thanks for all the detail!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is "supposed" to rain this weekend according to the crack meteorological team in St. Louis. So that probably means we won't get a drop of rain unless you try to fly.

How come you are putting the fuel dot on the inside?

He's got to open the canopy anyway to unplug the batteries. Plus one screw to get to the batts and fuel, very cool.

Adding the carbon fiber is a good idea.

I don't like having fuel dots and switches on the outside because I feel it takes away from the overall looks of the plane. If I had to remove 6 screws to take it apart I might have to rethink it, but since we're only talking 1 screw it will all be on the inside.

This is my first plane with a CF removable motor dome. After looking at the Krill website and seeing other builds here on FG, I decided the original Motor backup plate I made probably wouldn't be sufficient. So I took it back out and made a full firewall plate and glued it in, I feel much better now

I've really wanted to run some of the soda bottle round fuel tanks. I even bought these really trick aluminum billet caps. But once again I'm going with a Dubro 50oz fuel tank. Super easy and reliable and it only weighs 5oz. I start by soldering on some Dubro fuel line barbs and make sure to use the red stopper. I then cut a 1/8" piece of Tygon and slip it over the fuel line. Next after I put the fuel line on over the barb, I slide that ring up and over the barb and it works like a clamp. This works much better than using a zip tie because it puts even clamping pressure on the hose. I also cut a small notch at the end of the vent tube so if it touches the top of the tank air will still get in.
