for servos you could go with 5625's from hitec. they are super fast and have enough torque to handle the job. i would use one of these on all surfaces. just use a good std servo on the throttle. as you get bigger, more powerful planes i would use a 5625 on the throttle as well but probably not necessary in this application. if you are using a gas engine, you'll want one with an electronic ign. therefore you'll need an ign battery as well as your batt for the rx. you can get away with (1) a123 1100mah or so on the rx and one nimh on the ign. that'll keep it simple for you and eliminate the need for regulators and such. just make sure you get a good heavy duty switch.
you'll probably want a 2.4 radio system if you are looking to be able to fly whenever and where ever you are. this is the most proven problem free RF set up there is. good luck and welcome to the giants!

Thanks for the quick reply and the great info, i was looking at the 5625 a lil bit ago and also thought that it could handle the job, i was looking at the Fromeco Iron Corps 1200 mah for ignition and the 2400 mah for the flight controls, are those a lil overkill for my application? i dont want to skimp on this stuff but i also dont wanna break the bank just getting started, would the Wolverine or Badger switch be sufficient enough to handle the task? Thanks again for the welcome!

are those fromeco's a123's or are they lions? if they are lions you'll need a regulator for the ign.... actually, you will probably need a reg for the ign with either a123's or li-ons. you will be fine with just using a 5cell nimh pack for the ign. they are cheap and they will not need to be regulated.

The Fromeco's a123's are lion but on there site there is two different style a123's so im not sure if i need a regulator or not http://www.fromeco.org/Products/01FR...8/Default.aspx if all i need is a 5 cell nimh pack for ignition then im cool with that, can i use a 1100 mah nimh pack for rx or should i look at something a lil more poweful, and which charger would you recommend i use for these batteries.
Thanks |

these "iron corps" batts are not really a123's... they just use similar technology. they are for glow planes pretty much. you can just use nimh batts for both the ign and the rx if you wish and you then just need an average charger. i would get a "triton" and just be done with it. this charger will charge just about any battery.
get atleast a 1600mah for the rx if you are going nimh and you should be just about fine with an 1100 on the ign. it wouldn't hurt to run a 1600 or so on t hat either though... i am not against the iron corps for the rx but you'll need a regulator to get the volts down to 6 at the rx and the servos. you will need to get the voltage down to between 4.8 & 6 forthe ing as well.....

Looking good Shawn, just found your thread, PS, dont get a123's.. get the LiIons instead. Youll be much happier.
Look forward to seeing it go! JV
