Has anyone out there flown, owned, or seen a knox hobby/Blazing Wings pitts fly with a 150cc? I have a 3w 150 laying in the shop and was looking at this plane from Knox hobby. The only video I have come across is with a 106 and it seems a bit slugish. Just looking for some input.

Well they still have the same dimensions and they both reccomend the same motor sizes. Just wanted to know if the 150 was to much?

Hey Nick,
For all intents and purposes, they are the same plane. CH model (the builder in China) started out building the planes for Blazing Wings. Then for reasons unknown, they Knox Hobbies picked up the line from CH and made some design improvements. DH models now make the Pitts for Blazing Wings. Supposedly, DH was the original designer and builder and someone from DH left and took the design and started CH models. That is the story as I know it. However, I am sure there are some details that I do not know of. Either way, I think the plane is a good deal. Happy Landings.

I actually did a lot of reading over in the CH Models Pitts thread >>>>> http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...itts-12-a.html and from what i gather a 150 fits pretty well. there was a guy who posted a video of one flying on you tube with a 3W-106 and it looked like it flew pretty well , but the pullout wasn't all that good.
With that being said....i had thought the perfect motor for this 150cc pitts would have been a BME 150LT. The reason being is it's only about 7oz heavier than a DA-100 , and takes up about the same size foot print. It has real close to the same HP as a DA-150 but weighs about 2-1/2 lbs less. I'm not Knocking DA though , because they are awesome motors and either one would probably work fine. I also think a 3W-120 or 3W-140 would be a good match as well. I think the original poster "CavanaBob" put a Kroma 180 in it....WOW! But i think he got it to balance ok....so there are a lot of options i think you could use in that big pitts. Having your choice of a custom scheme is pretty cool to. |

The owner of BW posted in another thread , and mentioned he had a lot of personal stuff going on , but was just now trying to get things back up and running at full speed. That was a few weeks ago I read this. I'd keep trying , as it sounded like they knew they were behind , but they we're trying like hell to catch up.

Having your choice of a custom scheme is pretty cool to.[/QUOTE The one I'm putting together is one of the last ones that had the strong gear plate (No pipe tunnel) and the stronger wings. (Got this info from Gary Clark, one of Knox Hobbies field reps) He is the one that sold it to me and it had a few minor issues. He took care of me as well as Dwayne. I think there WERE some personal issues with Dwayne but they are being worked out. The story I received was that there were also some bumps in the road at the factory level...... Something about an employee injury and over in China, that has a lot of implications that get the State Commie head honchos to look at ya real serious like. As far as balance and power issues go on this bird, it needed a lot of nose weight so I put in a brand new (Old style) 3W-120 that has the carb and muffs on the bottom. It makes good use of that excess weight and slightly more power than a hundred. The first run on the motor was rich and it had a 29-10 Mezlic prop on it. It was bumping 5950 rpms and from what I heard about this motor, it was supposed to be run at 56-59 hundred revs on a 28-10 after break-in anyway. Sounds like I have a slow-motion stump puller! The only other change I made to our Model 12 was to peel off the China Kote and put some good old Ultrakote in a different scheme. I've replaced a little bit of the Chinese hardware and I really do like the orange scallops. I can barely wait! WT ![]()

I know Gary and DWayne and I've seen both versions fly around Austin and Houston. The first one I saw, Chuck was flying with a GPPro 110. It was the first version. I have a 3W-157 I think I'll stuff in one. It just fits in the cowl.
