Default Grapevine/Southlake/Lewisville, TX Flying Fields?

I'm not exactly looking for a r/c club. I already belong to the North Dallas RC Club. I'm just looking for a flying field. The problem is that NDRCC club field is way on the other side of Lake Lewisville. I'm in Flower Mound. It's OK on a weekend, but during the week after work, the traffic is horrible and not practical to get up there.

Any of you Grapevine, Southlake or Lewisville guys know of a reasonable flying field this side of Lake Lewisville? I've heard about the Lake Dallas field, but haven't checked it out yet. I think it's just a clearing on Corps land that gets trashed alot.

They have the one in Grapevine off of 114. And not sure what that road is back there in the park.

Yep, I think I know the one. It's right out next to the boat ramps by some soccer fields. I've seen mainly helis and small electrics out there. I don't think it's big enough for gassers.

Jim,
Tom Fawcett and I fly at Lake Dallas sometimes during the week. Since DST its pretty good cause the wind lays down in the afternoons and the field has some trees around it that act like a wind break. The only draw back is the field is grass and not well taken care of.
Email me or call the cell (you can get the number off the members only list) and come fly with us.
We are going out today at 4:45 to get ready for the 3D huckfest this weekend at Golden Triangle.

Johnny

The 114 field is plenty big for gassers, has electricity and running water as well.

Phipps, I agree with Johnny the Lake Dallas field is "ok" wide open area and ample landing room for the stuff we fly. I fly there almost every weekend because its quiet and noone really bothers you except for some of the grumpy old farts that have nothing better to do than gripe. Come join anytime, I am always looking for a large scale flying buddy since they are few and far between at our field.

Not sure I have flown with you Johnny, but I am the guy that flies out there with the Krill Katana and 33% Yak.

Grapevine field is really small and the trees are in your face when flying anything larger than a 120. I have flown my 80cc yak there several times but they frown on it because of the loud engine and houses so close to the field. You are right though it has turned into a heli only field recently. Lots of great guys out there and will be happy to let you have air time in a fixed wing as long as they get theirs as well. The field name is 114th rc squadron, and they have a website.

I've also flown at the Lake Dallas Falcons field, right by what's left of the old Lake Dallas dam and the awesome party cove right behind the old dam Had a buddy that used to live right on the lake at the end of Hook street, now that place is a mega apartment complex.

Those are some $$$$ houses, too. I bet it won't be long until they have to go 100% electric.

Mr E,
I do remember a Krill Katana all red that had a ZDZ 80 I think, that flew at Corsicana one year.
I used to fly a 35% Wildhare Giles 202 for a few seasons with a 3W-75I. I used to be a member at Grapevine and yes they do kinda frown on big planes, they really want .60 size or smaller or heli.

Your right Lake Dallas has allot of grumpy old farts but Fawcett is a grumpy old fart so his grumpyness offsets their grumpyness.

North Dallas is a long haul for an afternoon flight, Lake Dallas is closer to Carrollton for me.

Tehe, Tom is a great guy even if he is a little grumpy (only teasing Tom). I dont have a red Krill, mine is in my avitar and flies on a DA100. Falcon's field is a haul for me because I come from Plano, but it is the closest and best field I have found in my general area. I like it so much because not many people come out so you have the field to yourself even on the most beautiful of days, And there is a great group of guys that are there every sunday rain, hail, sleet, sunny, it doesnt matter they are always there sunday morning.

You guys need to make a early saturday trip to SA.....very few guys here also that fly GS, we usually have the field to ourselves also, and we always share cause no matter what we will out last them, we usually fly for 8-10 hrs. Noone else around here stays as long as us, so we always get our turn. Usually just me,Bob and Byron, occasionally Drew, or Greg. Sport fliers are gone by 11:00 am.

Johnny,

Are the grumpy old farts at Lake Dallas grumpier than the grumpy old farts at Eagle Field? Tom is cool.

Where is the Lake Dallas field located? Give me a street or hint on a map. Is it near the old runway just up the shoreline from the marina?

Heading North on 35E you will pass over Lewisville Lake, the exit your looking for is "S. Denton Dr" after exiting off of 35E it will veer to the right and enter onto S. Denton Dr. (exit and take a left onto S. Denton Dr) after you make the left onto Denton Dr. the first street on your right will be "Carlisle Dr" There is a Bar-b-q store on the corner of Carlisle. Stay down this road for apporx half mile and you will come to stop sign at intersection Main/Carlisle. Take a right onto "Main St" and just follow Main all the way to the park.. Pretty easy to get too, its just back out of the way. outta sight outta mind!

Jim,
The ones at North Dallas are worse, Why ! because they know better. The ones at Lake Dallas are just old, the ones at North Dallas are old and mean.

Old is OK. We are all going to get old. With age, you are allowed a certain degree of grumpiness (arthritus, roids, e.d., etc).

Being mean and a bully is just a lack of respect and regard for other people. My solution is to "kill them with kindness".
