I'm doing a class at the JR high school this week and would like to show the math behind the plane. Any help would be appreciated. Dennis

My buddy lent me his aeronautical engineering text book once. That's got it all. It's pretty heavy duty though...and I have graduated from engineering school. It'll put you to sleep for sure.

Here's a really good online book, that while it doesn't have alot of math, it has a good explanation of lift, stability, etc.
http://www.av8n.com/how/ However, my favourite aerodynamic textbook ever is this one: ://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Flight-John-D-Anderson/dp/007109282X If you can get your hands on this book at the library, or if you're willing to slurge for it, you should totally get it. I went through aerospace engineering, and it was by far my favourite text book. It has the math in there, but it's written such that you actually WANT to read it. Very good explanations, and historical footnotes. Google books will let you have a looks at some excerpts of it here: http://books.google.com/books?id=pW8U-UddgDMC Also, do some surfing. NASA has some good instructional websites out there that might help. http://www.lerc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/bga.html Tom |
