+1 for the 3D Hobby's AJ Slick 540! I've got about 15 flights on mine and hovering is about as easy as hovering my Trex 700.

do is hover. If you are looking to put a 50cc engine on something, look for planes with around an 84" wingspan - and not all yaks are the same. Different manufacturers have different design changes, control surface sizes, weights, airfoils, etc. If you want a Yak then the Extremeflight is pretty much the way to go. They also make a killer Extra 300. Aeroworks makes a nice-flying Extra 260. 3DHobbyshop has a badass Slick540.
Basically, look for something with 1300+ square inches of wing area and flying weights 17 pounds or less - preferably 16 pounds.
When you say 16 pounds is that without motor. I was looking at the Extreme flight 88" extra and it says 1900 square feet of wing and it weights 28 pounds

Na that aint right. Somethings mixed up there. The 88" will have about 1500 square INCHES (not feet) of wing area LOL and weigh in around 16.5 - 17 pounds (NOT TONS)
Theres a really good review on it in the forum just do a search, came out as a great bird.

Found one of the links for ya

Hahaha...yeh..inches sorry.

The Extreme Flight Extra 300 looks like the perfect plane. 88" with 1450 SQUARE INCHES!

And the price is very reasonable as well.

buy the EF extra and get an Aera51 engine... you won't have that much $$$ tied up and you'll be able to do as much as your talent will allow.

well.... go on.... get ordering!! LOL

Hahah..very true... I was looking at those Area 51s. So other than weighing 0.3 pounds more, having 0.5 more hp, and costing less, how is the Area 51 motor compared to the DA 50? Quality, reliability, power, ect.....

Cheers

No. You said you are looking for a plane in the 6-7 foot wingspan range. Extremeflight makes an 88" extra(7ft, 4in.) It has around 1500 squares and is in the 17-18 pound range, WITH engine. It is not your lightest option, but it has one of the lightest wing loadings.
IMO, hovering for any more than about 15-30 seconds gets boring in a hurry. It's pretty much the easiest "3D" maneuver to do. You might want to expand your flight envelope a bit...
That EF 300 is about the sexiest 50cc plane out there, that's for sure, and it will most definitely allow you to expand your flight envelope.

Second

This looks like one of the best 50cc plane right now.

Go to RCU and search "Area 51". Look for the biggest thread and start reading. I will only say that Milton is a stand up guy...

I'll let your reading tell you the rest of the story...you won't be disappointed...

Good luck finding something that flies like the Yak in 4.5. I learned how to hover with a foamy (E-flite Tribute 3D) then I went to a UCD .46, then and Extreme Flight 88" Yak and it's all history from there. Go smaller first, and with a tough foamy. When you master that, upgrade to a bigger plane (Mojo .40, UCD .46, etc.) then just jump up in the ranks until you get a gasser. When you get a gasser, practice until your thumbs are sore, then practice more!

I would go with a dl 55 instead of that area 51. This is my second dl engine and their company is great with costumer service and has great quality. I originally was choosing between the area 51 and dl 55 and found out some things from certain people. Apparentlly the area 51 has some issues to be worked out. Personally, i would go for something different, preffereblly the dl.

Agreed. I ripped half the wing off the RealFlight 4.5 yak and proceeded to do knife edge touch and goes, and even rolls - with half the wing gone! Having had to fly and land a plane in real life with half the wing missing, I can tell you that real life is nothing like the simulated world. A nice 16 ounce foamie is the best place to start if you are obsessed with hovering.
