Shucks, I'm just riding his coat tails and picking up crumbs along the way....lol

Josh, not much different than the 35% assembly wise, just a tad bigger in size, and maybe a couple more servos.

I could'nt bare to see it tossed away...
Also there is an old 1/3 scale laser that has some history behind it as well in a buddies attic that I will be getting this summer, it needs some work on the firewall from a deadstick many years ago. I will fix it and fly that one one day.
CRAP!!!, Now I will never get my plane done........

Well if this threads still running in a month or two I can add some info from my next build which is a scratch 35% Edge 540 thats taken about 5 months to CAD out to my satisfaction so its close to true scale. Plan on using a 3W 85xi.....maybe on pipe and shooting for 22.5 pounds AUW, single 8711's on the wing.

Geez guys,
I come back an hour and a half later and this is up to page four. You guys are all closet crashers and have airframes to repair and/or lighten up! With that said, I'll break out the camera and take a few pics of the rebuild and the proposed color scheme. Way to go Mike..... You got me off my dead rear and on my dying feet! Now I'm motivated!

I almost always do what I can to lighten airframes. I swiss cheesed a 35% Carden Edge that ended up about 4 pounds lighter than a stock built kit. Heck, I built a 60 size Great Planes extra that was about 1.5 pounds lighter than the average built kit. One thing that we overlook sometimes is simply picking the right gear. If you can keep it simple and find gear that will do the job only with less weight, you would be suprised at how light you can build a plane. Unfortunately, sometimes this can be expensive; ie. carbon wingtubes to replace stock aluminum ones, carbon landing gear or the new milled aluminum gear, etc. etc.

Good ideas fellas

This one is a scratch built from Strickland plans. But its 116" wing span, 40% and weight is 28lbs.

Here's some of my lightening techniques. Key notes are how I lighten a fuse without removing any covering or redesigning anything, and My use of balsa for engine standoffs as well as T-nuts and titanium fasteners instead of fender washers and locknuts, etc., etc., etc.

just put a 170 in it. Decided to go stock muffs instead of pipes so I am now somewhere in the 36lb range I would guess. Flew it strictly IMAC last year and it has held up fine with virtually no maintenance. Flew it to a 5th place finish in Intermediate at the Shootout last year and have two 3rd place finishes with it already in Advanced this year.
The balsa stand-offs are holding up well. Interestingly, the 1/32" ply end caps on those stand-offs are what got weak on me. The solution to that is G-10 material instead of ply and they will last forever.
