Default RC League 85" 50cc Yak 54

Some of you may have read that CRRC Pro has sent me a new prototype GP50R for testing.
I started a thread on the engine testing ( http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...gine-test.html ).
I decided to get a better airframe then the beater airframe that I had for th air testing of this engine.
I went with the RC Leauge 85" Yak 54.
Valley Veiw RC has these going for $390.00 with free shipping at the moment.
Plane came with fast shipping from one side of the country to the other ( WA to NJ ) 5 days.
Well packed and no damage at all.
The kit Valley Veiw is selling has the complete carbon fiber package ( main landing gear, tailwheel, wingtube, stab tube ).
I pulled everything from the boxes, inspected them for quality and weighted eack piece.
Total weight of everything that is included in the kit ( every nut/bolt/hardware/wheel ect ect ) is 171.2 oz. ( 10.69 lbs ).
Wingspan: 85" ( mine is actually 86" with wings on )
Length : 75 1/2"
Wing Aera : 1411 sq. in.
Engine size : 50cc
Flyig weight 16 1/2 lbs.
I am going to keep this plane mostly stock, maybe just change a hardware item or two.
Only things I see that I wish were different are the tailwheel assy ( the one that is includes is a funky design ) and a larger wingtube assy ( the one designed n the plane is 1" ).
Tonight I will post some more pictures of the ARF.

That is a sharp-looking plane, I just love that yellow/black scheme. If it flies as well as your Richmodel Yak you will have a sure winner on your hands. $390 shipped is really a nice price too.

I saw these planes in person at an expo here in February. It looked solid as far as I could tell, and the addition of carbon gear and tubes in a plane that inexpensive is a bonus.

For the price that is really impressive. Good luck with the build!

I see one broken stringer. No biggie. I like the sliding engine box, looks like that gets bolted into place. I like the spats. A pain if flying in the grass but they look really cool.

Could you please take a picture of the rudder? I want to know how "scale" it looks. Speaking in terms of dimensions, this is one of thte most "scale" Yaks on the market. Most others are stretched enormously, and that takes away from the Bulldog/Boxer look of the original IMO..

Yep, only broken piece in the whole kit.
Easy fix and is already done.

Couple of pics of the engine mounted on engine box.
Fuse firewall sealed and painted.

So Robin does the motor box slide into the fues and you bolt it or expoy where you need it.How big is the rudder, can you put a ruler next to the picture of it. Is there room for a canister or tune pipe..How much of the cowling do you have to cut,. Is this about the size of the T.O.C 30% yak. I am thinking about getting the Russian scheme. Do you get the carbon fiber horns and arms with it. How good is the hardware that it comes with...

Yes engine box slides into fuse. Looks to have an inch of adjustment and bolts into place. The manual ( http://www.rcleague.com.cn/UploadFil...e%20Manual.pdf. ) is lacking info, a newbie would be lost. I believe eight bolts hold it in place, but I am unsure of this yet. Rudder alone is 9 1/2" X 17". Cowl cutting looks like only the top head fins will stick out and it will depend on muffler choice. Hardware seem pretty good. Control horns are aluminum, aluminum control rods, ball links, and fiberglass servo control horns. I am going to bolt the surface control horns all the way through instead of the wood screws.

**** fit canopy for test fitting before final cutting ****

I decided to cut the canopy to see what size pilot figure I was going to use and cut the canopy on the line that I have cut all canopies on and it fell short. So, fit as you cut....................

robinhood, I would reinforce your engine mounting box if I were you. I have the same plane and went without any reinforcement the first 6-8 flights. Noticed a slight vibration and very soon after glassed mine. Absolutely love this plane. Others on here have suggested that the aluminum wing tube is a weak point but I don't do snap rolls at w.o.t. I'd like to upgrade the landing gear to carbon fiber if anyone has one laying around. Good luck with yours I'm sure you'll love it. Did you end up making the wing tube larger? if you do please show how you're going to tackle that project, thanks, Brent

Enlargeing the wingtube in the fuse wouldn't be a big deal, but how in the world would you enlarge it in the wings? Mine came with the carbon wingtube and I have not read any issues with it.
As far as the carbon landing gear mine fit perfect and the gear cover fit perfect. I have read were some guys the landing gear wasn't wide enough and they cut the gear to make it fit. Seems that the latest kits the issues is fixed.

Here is a picture of a bad/old gear kit.

Here is a picture of my kit.
