I was going to wait on the blue flame scheme, but could not wait so opted for the Russian Thunder. I placed my order last week with TBM and paid on Friday. One week later the plane is on my door step.
This is the first time I got an order in a wood crate. Unpacking it, I kept thinking of the scene from "A Christmas Story" when the dad is unpacking the "Major Award". Very well packed and shipping was lightning fast. (they did forget my t-shirt that is included with every plane purchase as clearly advertised in the ad in the M.A. rag ) But really, Jeff at TBM was great to work with and kept me posted on every little thing going on with my order. This is my first dealings with them, but would not hesitate to order again. Anyhow...the plane: Unpacked it and was amazed at the quality of everything. The hinges were already installed and PINNED! All I had to do was epoxy the rudder in. And the holes were already cut. The fuel tank was installed with a fuel dot and fuel lines. The firewall was pre-marked for the DA that I was sticking in it. The pull-pull cables already routed. The quality of the hardware is also top notch. I haven't built a lot of giant scale planes, but I have a habit of throwing the stock hardware out. I kinda dig the carbon spinner, landing gear, and wing tubes that come stock with this kit. I spent about an hour and a half just taking an inventory and tinkering. I cut the engine stand-offs, but couldn't find my tap set. That will have to wait till tomorrow. I mixed up some epoxy and glass and set the rudder. It pretty much comes ready to stuff, good for people who would rather fly than build. OH.. The tape they use to hold hatches and wires on SUCKS!! Had a really hard time trying to get the glue off. Will post more when I get it stuffed and maybe a first flight.
