Default Gassers fuel question

Hey, I'm new to gassers, and have a beautiful, shiney new DA-50. I am wondering what the best fuel is to use with it. I have been told Avgas, but I've read that just Premium car gas will suffice. Any ideas?

Although im no gasser expert, i've read that premium gas from your regular station works great. there was a thread on here about someone who used Avgas in their engine and blew nice lookin holes in it

DA's work very well using both regular and premium unleaded auto fuels. To maintain fuel quality consistency just use the premium gas. Avgas is not recommended due to a high lead content.

Very preferably not from your local quick mart. Use only reputable brand name gas, like Shell, Chevron, Mobil, or Texaco.

I had been using Shell regular and premium but they started adding nitrogen to their gas. The stuff doesn't burn at all so you're getting less usable gas for the money spent. It's supposed to make for a cleaner engine but I don't know how that could be done with an inert gas. I also noticed that my engines became more erratic in their tuning after the change to the nitrogen. Changing over to Chevron, whom I know to maintain control over the mix, and the engines are running well again.

From that wacky DA manual....

Quote:
Low to Mid octane pump gas is recommended. High octane may be beneficial only
when using tuned exhaust systems.

I'd try diesel. It doesn't have ethanol.

you cant it's not enviromentally friendly. bio diesel regular or mid grade i don't see why you would use premium it needs higher compression or a tuned piped to take advantange of the slower burn qualities of premium.

Unless 3w, MVVS, or ZDZ you don't need premium at all. It helps having the higher octane for gas that sits for awhile. Gas does lose some of it's octane level over time. Since I take a few weeks to fly out a few gallons of gas I get the better stuff just to allow for the sitting time. Realistically the 87 octane stuff woud probably still be just fine after a couple of months in the shade.

i just used some old chainsaw gas that was a 2yrs old in my chainsaw the other week. uummm lets just say she didn't have the same power as with fresh fuel. but imsure you are right if it's going to sit, higher octane might just be the ticket.

Yes, but running premium even if you don't have to doesn't hurt the engine like it would if you ran regular when you should have run premium. And the DA-170's need to run premium fuel - got that straight from the horses mouth.
