I dunno the answer myself, but sure am curious to know if someone else does.
It would help if we could get some on 72mhz.

with the PNP version you can put in what ever RX you want to , that way you can run 72 and be a part of the FUN ....

I'm not very well informed about the details of the Futaba systems but I do know that there are 79 channels in the 2.4 ghz band that JR/Spektrum uses and each radio will utilize 2 of those. So we can have 39 people on these systems alone.

It would be helpful if someone who knows commented on the way the Futaba technology works, if it's on a different group of frequencies in the 2.4 ghz band, and just how many can operate at once.

This will be key toward reaching a goal of a huge number of T-28's flying at once.

Yes, this flexibility may be the difference in flying with the big group or waiting to link. So, it may be wise to bring some alternate RX's like Donnie suggests.

Just for your info, and NO reflection on the quality of Futaba, but, during the record attempt last year and at this years SEFF, 487 pilots, I have yet to see the first Futaba 2.4 gig radio. So I wouldn't count on them to be there.

well with 487 and only 39 2.4 jr radios working at ounce I find it hard to believe there was 448 other people on 72, am, ham, and what ever else you can fly on.

Remember you are going to have a bunch of people in the camping area flying foamiee's on 2.4 and down at the 3D line on 2.4 and at the Heli on 2.4 and at the lake on 2.4 and up at vender row turning on 2.4 radios and about 1000 other people all over that place turning on 2.4 radios so the fact is I don't think anyone reallys knows how many can be on at the same time and still work but at the nall last year this was tested and it does not seem to be a problem, there is a couple Billion 2.4 cell phones out there and they all work at the same time and you don't have to wait for a channel to open up so you can call someone so who really knows ? Just turn it on and if it works go fly !

The bottom line is this, 2.4 radios have made it possible to do "mass launches" without issue but there are practical limitations to how many can be flown at once. So Mark's comments are really the profound reality "turn it on and if it works, fly". Those who get linked with any radio system can fly and we can keep this rotating until everyone flies in overlapping succession.

I think you missed my point. I was talking about the World Record Attempt not SEFF. We did have 22 flight stations going at the same time, not 487 flying at the same time. My statement on Futaba stands. I don't know why I haven't seen more. Again, no reflection on them.

On range check day, we had 114 pilots and 59 2.4 gig radios on and locked. Without going into detail, no one knows how many 2.4 gig radios can be on at one time. During our record attempt, we lost an equal amount of 2.4 and 72mz radio planes. Like McFueler said, besides your T-28's , you'll have a lot of folks turned on behind the lines.

I was at the record attempt last year at SEFF, and I recall someone saying there were some FASST systems flying (someting like 20?) as well as some Xtremes, and 40 DSM systems. There were two known problems with a couple of DX6 systems, and 6 or 7 problems with 72MHz systems (don't remember the exact number). They had most, if not all, of the 72MHz channels occupied, as well as some ham frequencies.

BTW, I was flying several planes at SEFF last year on FASST. (Not during the record attempt, however). I've never had a problem, anywhere.

I took my 6EX to work a while back to check it out on the spectrum analyzer. It transmits on 36 different frequencies as I recall. If you flip the "general/france" switch to France, it transmits on fewer frequencies, since some of the 2.4g spectrum is allocated differently in France. Whereas the DSM system can transmit on one of 80 frequecies, and does so on two at one time, this limits it to 40. (Robert said 79/39 and he may be right, I'm quoting what I have heard elsewhere.) The FASST system is frequency hopping, so I suspect the more you have on 2.4g, the slower its response will be as you start dropping frames when two radios happen to hop to the same frequency at the same time. I don't know if the FASST frequencies are the same as the DSM frequencies or not.

At SEFF, they went through a rather thorough range check before flying, where they had everyone spaced ~ 15 feet apart along the whole length of the runway, antennas collapsed and then extended, airplanes on the other side of the runway, to make sure there was no interference. This took a while to perform, as you might imagine. They also had 5 groups to launch separately, each group had their own area to fly (1-high and far, 2-high and near, 3-low and far, 4-middle, 5-low and near). They obviously put a lot of thought and planning into it. It wasn't just 120 pilots all standing together trying to take off at the same time and trying to fly in the same area.

I mention all of this just so you know what was done before, since it worked. I would love to see 100 T28s in the air at once, and I'm really sorry I won't be able to make Nall to be a part of it.

Hey everyone! As the brand manager for ParkZone, I love what you guys are planning on doing! In fact, I'll be sure that anyone who brings a T-28 to participate gets a ParkZone T-shirt. I'm going to bring a little over 100, and I hope I have to give all of them away!

See you all there!
