Hi, have a JR 8611a and the plastic (first gear off the motor) is stripped. I ordered a replacement set, but is there a place one can get just the plastic gear?
It's crazy to replace a $30 set of gears if all you need is just the first plastic gear. Thanks |

The DS 8411 is designed the same way. I have successfully replaced just the nylon gear using this part:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=JRPSGB1 But I don't see a comparable part number for the 8611a servo. It may turn out to be the same gear, but I don't know -- I don't own any 8611a servos. If someone owns both of these perhaps they will know if the first gear is the same. |

Noahb,
Welcome to metal gear servos. Its like JR's and Hitec's dirty little secret! They are all like this. All metal gear servos have to have somekind of non-ferrous gear right after the motor output gear. Yes even the famous Titanium Hitecs have a "karbonite" gear which is actually a grey plastic gear. Yeah the gear set for the 8611 are a rip off. The metal gears themselves are really quite robust-they will never wear out. JR and Horizon should pull there heads out of the arss and just sell the damn plastic intermediate gear but hey don't. I'm not bitter really! So the next best thing (I would recommend) is just send them in and let Horizon repair them. Chances are it will cost you less than a set of gears to get it fixed. So when Hitec and JR say all metal gears its a complete line bullsh!$. There is always a intermediate nonmetal gear. Another thing at least with 5955's - you can purchase just the plastic gear. Its like 10 bucks for three of them. Ronster |
