Are their specifics to the crash. What battery? What was the voltage under load. Has the receiver been checked out by Horizon? Sorry for the crash.

It's always a Spektrum issue just because that is what was installed... There are about, well, NUMEROUS other things that can cause a plane to lose control or go into failsafe that ARE NOT the fault of the receiver or the Spektrum system. How are you so sure that it was the fault of the AR7000?

Just a question........... Is it possible to fly Spectrum WITHOUT setting a failsafe. I've flown 10X's since day one and I've never set either failsafe mode available. (I'm knocking wood here....) I've never had a radio loss. (Kyle had two radio failures withing two weeks last year but it was traced to a faulty motor and 90 amp opto controller that came from Hyperion, both new.) I won't knock the 2.4 but I'm just not having any problems and the 10X I fly is pushing 2 years old. (Still too new to change!) So what about it? No fail safe is okay or not?

this was 6 months ago...AR7000 failed, went into failsafe for no apparent reason, was using JR NiMH 6V pack at the time, I recall testing voltage under load and was plenty, was only second flite....

sent to horizon and they replaced the entire radio system (DX7, servos and RX) they also replaced the model at a deep discount cost, engine repair I was out on my own, bent crank.....

dont fall into the marketing hype of these RC manufacturers....regardless of what they tell you it still electromagnetic radiation and is prone to interference, etc...is not magic or some huge discovery they have made...no matter what it still only electrons moving across time and space as Einstein and Maxwell's equations define

So if Horizon replaced your equipment and went out of their way to assist you in replacing your airplane at a deep discounted price, what may I ask is the purpose of this thread?

We all know that pretty much everything in life has a risk of failure including US!
So, that aside... ???

Use the AR7000's but ditch that crappy battery you're using. I wouldn't even use it on an ignition.

Losing a plane always sucks but it sounds like Horizon stepped up and made things right as best as they could. That's about all we can ask for in this hobby, a company that stands behind their products.

Joe,
He stated that he was using a 6 volt (five cell) JR NiMi battery for his airborne. What makes that kind of battery crap? Not picking on ya.... Isn't 6 volts better than 4.8 when it comes to preventing a brown out? (I don't know what servos or how many.... That could factor in if you were looking at that for a battery.) It looks like from the crash pic that the Mustang isn't some really big plane that would require li-pos or li-ons Would any 2.4 have to have a battery bigger than 6 volts? This is why I'm asking the questions before I jump off neck deep into 2.4 stuff. Don't know a thing about it..... I'm running old technology and want to know.

Well I bought one of those JR batteries once and hated it. It had a lower voltage even on a fresh charge. I ended up tossing it. The "rated" voltage of the pack is not the most important thing. The ability to supply a large amount of current while maintaining that voltage is. If he used that JR pack I'm not convinced it was the receiver. If that's the case he should be thanking Horizon for all that new stuff for free.

If he had the receiver with the slow reconnect, and that battery, odds are the brown out got him. Horizon may have taken care of it because of that update they needed to make for the quick reconnect.

Only use battery packs with high discharge current ratings. Some NiMh can do that but you need to know the right ones. IMO the A123 are the best at high discharge without worrying about starting a fire (Lipo). These guys using whimpy NiMh sport packs in their giant planes are crazy. I don't care what capacity and voltage they claim. Once you apply a load, it's brown out time.

yea i am, sorry just still one of those that cant manage to use my mind powers to pull the plane to safety when the over-priced equipment takes a dump...maybe one day I will be good nuff....

so what if I bash Horizon??? i have spent thousands with them and still do, and this not the one and only radio failure I've had...yea they took care me somewhat, but their failure still cost me $$$ to repair engine and other things....so i got no love for them....
