Toby,

With the 100 in the nose you'll have to mount the rudder servos in the tail. We also mounted the main rx batteries in the back of the radio tray and the ignition battery behind the tank in the front of the radio tray. No additional weight was added to balance. If you opt for an 85cc motor then mount the rudder servos in the radio tray and use the supplied pull-pull cables and put the ignition battery up front.

Tx, Mike.

I'll do so.

Toby, post some pics of your build and setup when you get it. Forrest is flying his over at the IMAC NATS this week and having a ball. I hear it is a bit chilly there though.

Hi Mike,

I'll do so, yes it is chilly out here too - we are in the middle of our winter, normally it is very mild with best flying days one can wish for!

Here's our latest video from this past weekend of fun. I think Forrest really likes his new plane......he won't let me fly it anymore... just kidding!

Good Flying! Mike & son.
Two things struct me - stability whilst flying in the wind, and visibility on a overcast day!
Like we say in Africa: WINDGAT English would be BADASS!
On mine the motor is mounted, but I went down with flu, will start today with servo installation. So far the only problem I have had is that the main wings are hinged exactly where the outboard control horns are going in - had to cut this back up to the second hole.
Nice flying

Thanks Toby, it was a fun day despite the wind. I don't understand your comment on the hinge though. The control horns are preslotted in the ailerons so there should be no issue regardless of where the hinges are located.

Hi Mike,

The slots into which one have to insert the aileron control horns on the outboard side of the wings, are directly overhead the pin hinge. I suspect that when the hinges were glued in, these slots filled up with glue. I had to heat up a hacksaw blade and burn the slots clean again. Except for the one slot which has the pin hinge directly underneath it. Here i had to cut the horn short enough to fit.
The plane is finished now, and ready to fly. Took some time to get here, but my Hitech programmer was used by a friend to do his plane.

Will take pictures when the weather allows it - we have our coldest spell over here in 10 years.

I am setting her up for 3d and imac. Everything went really well together. The only things I have changed on the kit was the phillips head screws. I am using the normal caps screws, its easier. And I removed the rudder too realign the hinges, could only get 30% to the one side as the surfaces on that side bound together at higher deflections.

Will do the maiden flight next week. I have decided to go with cans, when the plane is on the cg sling I will see if she is too nose heavy. Getting a new DLE 111 today and will install that if the nose is dropping too much.

Kind Regards

Toby

Hi Mike,

video link of a not too successful maiden flight and cameraman on a nasty windy day with wind from any direction. The time it was in the air though, did show promises of an excellent aircraft - only damage sustained was the right spat, demolished by a stone!

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

One and a half minutes of taxing, followed by 3 minutes of a tiny speck doing next to nothing.

Dead sticks are always exciting, yours being on a maiden flight and with the wind was a very good save.

Well just got the first two flights in on my 300 tonight. Everything went as well as you can hope for. Need to make small up thrust change and that will about fix her up.

I am running the DA 85 with greeve tune pipe and 26x12 prop. this thing has crazy power. I will be finishing the year out with this plane in the advanced class. It looks very promissing for IMAC, i know it will 3D good cause thats all my first one seen. I will have some pictures up tomorrow and try to get some vedio this weekend.

It is a bit difficult to fly and video the thing simultaneously - but will shoot a new video when my regular cameraman is available again and when the August winds are over.

TX YOU - yes it was a bit scary as the wind changed within seconds into any direction with some nasty whirlwinds in between.
