I may give it a try.... I've been throught a lot of planes/money this year, so we'll see what the next few months hold. I'm finishing an MX2 right now... turned out that I've had to throw everything away from the last crash... motor, servos, batteries, electronics... everything. I'll feel a lot better about the plane that I put in the air, but it's going to bankrupt me.

Matt, is there a Giles G-202 in your lineup? When will the website be up?

Thanks,

Jon

I HAD an Aerotech 42% Extra 300 and it was the best flying plane that I ever flew! Of course it was built by Dean Nistetter down in Texas so it was perfectly straight. When, exactly, is you new company/website going to be up and running and open for business?

This is a BIG plane for it's class. the wing area, wing span, tail feathers and fuse length are all larger than most 40% class 300's. The rudder on this plane, with the depth it has and the size of the counter balance, is VERY authoritative with very little input and deflection. It really makes for a great sequence plane on a very low deflection rate because of the size. Now, flip up the rates and you grab more air than most extras this size and have awesome authority as well. I think that folks that have flown this plane will tell you that there is less rudder deflection needed in 3D attitudes on this plane than on many others and one does not have to have 45+ degrees of throw to accomodate easily sustainable high alpha flight.

I cannot tell you how this plane would fly with a smaller rudder because I have never flown one like that. The 300 Midwing that Aerotech has offered for quite some time now, has definitely fallen into that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" category for us! We have added the interlocking, lightened motor box and the CNC cut version and now offer it with a better hardward pack, carbon tubes, all 1/16th inch sheeting on surfaces other than the fuse sides, but other than that, we have left this one alone.

Hopefully I was able to somewhat answer your question but just incase more specific info is needed, I have forwarded it on to Rob Joyner of Competition Airframes and I am quite certain that he can share with us the design reasoning behind the size of the rudder.

Thanks for the interest. We look forward to seeing you build and fly one of ours one day.

Matt Mikesh
Matt,

I own (still own but up for sale) a 40% Aerotech 300. The original design was a good platform to build on but was not a 100% IMAC competition ready model. After flying the stock model for one season I modified mine heavily and then flew it a second season. New stabs, hatch, wings, gear, amongst other things was what was changed. One thing I wish I had also modified was the fin/rudder. The original fin/rudder design is not optimal, in my opinion. Big - yes. Authority - yes. Optimal - no.

I gave all that feedback to John after the modifications were complete. I do believe John made the wing airfoil change on the production model but not sure of the other stuff.

Good luck with the new business. I'm sure your kits will be well received.

Ryan...

the 300 has a bit thinner vertical than the origional (part of john's changes and nothing we have had to do) and we are making the gear sweep forward just a bit to be more scale. i know that john DID take into consideration your comments and DID make adjustments to the origional kit. i am certain that this more up to date model will be even better received in the imac world!

YES!!!! there certainly is a G202 in our line up. Right now, we have the 44% version that Rob Joyner of Competition Airframes had modified for himself. The previous Aerotech owner had added this to the lineup not long before we acquired the company.

we are hoping to be open and ready to go in august. we realize that all of you are being very patient and we definitely appreciate that! Trust me.... we are waiting to open for one reason only.... we WILL be able to serve all of our customers from the very beginning. We are making the necessry structural, lightening, and manufacturing adjustments to our kits before we allow a customer to purchase one. these WILL be the best builder's kits available on the market from day one when we open!!!!

thanks again for the incouragement and the support guys! we truly look forward to serving all of you!

So I just came into possession of a 3W150.......Do I sell the motor to fund a 100cc SU-26 that I already have all the servos and motor for or do I try to fund a 40% version and wonder where I'll put it in the trailer when I move again. And I won't be able to just move the servos to the 40%er as they are 8411's and my 40% planes get 8611's.

Decisions, decisions.....

You already know the answer. Always go bigger. No shame in over compensating. lol. Besides, by the time you move again, you might not have the number of planes in the trailer as you do right now. If you do, sell your least favorite and make room for the 40%. Just do it. The AT 300 and edge are both some kind of nice.

Sam,
Get the 40%, build it. I'll store it in my garage, and even take it out and train it once in a while, until you get settled, and stop moving so much.
