Default Elan maiden

My mate maidened his Elan last Monday, wouldn't mind one myself, nice birds.
I wonder if he'll swap it for my Intro if I ask nicely.

Some of the local punters complained about lack of video, so of course I produced one for them.

I've got about a dozen flights on mine now. Fantastic plane. Flies like an old-style pattern airplane. Full flaps (air brakes) really slow the model down and a bit of reflexed aileron (crow) allows you to pull the nose up for landing without tip stalling. With the full flaps, it actually takes a bit of power to keep the bird flying. Great plane! Looks great in the air too!

where do you fly at? I'm just over the mountain near harrisonburg and have been looking for a place to fly my jets off something other than grass.

Hey Tom, this is Cliff. We come over to the big bird every year. Chuck is a buddy of mine over here on the poor side of the mountain. He got his waiver down in Florida. He is actually looking forward to coming to H'burg to fly his over there this year.

Doing pretty good, how about you? Have you finished your jet yet? We are having a big bird this year too, it is the weekend before yours, c'mon over if you can make it. I finally got my Ultimate all done, so I should be able to fly it at the jumbo.

Elans are great flyers. My friend had a flame out on his and landed it like a trainer.

Tom-
I haven't flown it yet in the area. I got the waiver in Mobile, AL after flying on some military fields in the Florida panhandle..... great, long paved runways! ...and several to choose from.

In Virginia, the only paved field I know of that is regularly open on the weekends (and holidays) is Fentress NALF in Chesapeake, VA... about 4 hours drive for me, a little longer for you. They have the jet rally there Memorial Day weekend, but I have a wedding to go to. Fort Pickett near Petersburg is apparently available occasionally, and I'm on the list to hear about when it's open. They have a paved runway as well. Ft. Lee in Petersburg no longer allows models to use the paved runway/taxiway for flying.

The Elan should fly fine in Harrisonburg, but I want to try it first without the crowds of the fly-in. Cliff and I may come over sometime and give it a try.

Richmond also has a pretty good grass field on the Shirley Plantation east of Richmond. They fly jets there. I've not been there yet.

I'm working on an ugly "ShockJet" to fly off of the rougher grass fields around here when I can't fly the Elan.

You can PM me if you want to get together sometime.

-Chuck
