1 gallon? Only a 50cc Edge?? Next will be 100cc, then 170cc. Buy or build it youself, but make it bigger.

I'd go with at least two gallons.

I would go with atleast a 2 gallon too. This is the reason. If you use a 1 gallon and you get about 2/3 of it used and you want to go fly, you need more gas. Well, ya gotta mix more oil/gas and it is much easier to add a whole gallon to not need to do math to figure out how much oil you need to mix if you use less than a gallon. Since you 1 gallon would still have 1/3 in it, you would not be able to put a whole gallon of fuel in it.

Ask me how I figured this little bit of trivia out. Been there, done that.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks!

Sometimes it's not about getting it cheaper, it's about getting it without having to expend time better used elsewhere.
I enjoy the build, plus that $90 was "better used elsewhere"..

I enjoy your posts Tired Old Man, I just hope I don't get cantankerous in my old age.

Hi,

An alternative to the crank or electric pump.

Use an air bulb ( like from a blood pressure cuff ) to pressurize your gas can.

That's pretty cool. Do you find it faster or slower compared to the hand cranking?

Yep, build your own.
Mine is two one gallon cans. ( one gasoline, one smoke ).
12V powered. Clean, easy, and simple.

BoneDoc,

It takes about 2 minutes to fill a 32oz tank. You pump it about 15 times and then just leave it.
To me its a good solution to for the 100cc class and smaller. Its cheap, light, minimal effort and nothing to charge.

I think on a 150cc class plane with their bigger tanks, the speed of an electric would be nice.

Cantankerous? Naw, just illustrating why some may not choose to make their own. Although it's less expensive and frequently more satisfying, there are times the straight buy and deliver works out better. Sort of like building a kit or buying an arf. Time and convenience generally make the decision.

Here a nice place to buy pumps for all kinds of liquids.

http://www.greylor.com/productline_pq1224.htm

Now if your a tinkering old fart like one guy I know very personally there is a cool way to make your own pump setup and its very portable.

First choose the type of gas container you like. It can be plastic or steel or what ever takes your fancy and meets your local laws. I see a good few guys using outboard motor fuel tanks as they have the suction lines installed etc.

The pump and battery pack you build just like you see in that earlier post but DO NOT MOUNT IT to the gas can. Instead go find a nice aluminum plate or make your own from a ply plate. Shape it so it goes over the filler cap on the gas can and hangs neatly down the side. Fit the DPDT switch so it can suck and blow and use an 11.1 volt lipo pack to drive the pump. You can make the pack so it has an external charge jack or you can unscrew the cover and pull the pack to charge if that feels safer for you.

Now the nice thing about this set up is one day your going to have a new plane and the gas is not the same mix as your OTHER PLANE!! Now you can have TWO GAS CANS and one pump assembly that flips from can to can.
