Sorry for the delay, I'd go with a 2 or 2-1/2 gallon can. You can alway just mix 1 gallon at a time.

If you are going to be a Joe Nall, you can usually get these at a pretty good deal from a number of vendors.

I just made my own. It's working very good. I'm using VPX packs for power. I keep a VPX flashlight and a couple extra packs in my truck so I always have a spare battery. I used industrial velcro to keep it from moving around on the tank.
Now I've got several friends waiting on me to build them one also.

I agree with T.O.M that typically I'll pay for something for the ease of it over cost. In this instance I refused to pay the $100 profit margin at retail. This was back when Abellrc was really the only one producing cans. I bought all the parts needed for under about $65. For 2 yrs it worked great. Then my Kavan pump started leaking in colder weather only. The gasket was looking like crap. I decided to upgrade the pump vs replacing the gasket. I bought a silver pump the Greylor (same as on the Jersey can). And I'm still under the $200 after 2 pumps.
There are things I'll pay for, for the ease or because I can't do something very well (like build straight). But If I can do it for far less and in a short amount of time then I do it myself. * The battery is now a 3 cell LION at 11.1v and uses velcro straps to hold it on.

Yep, the "old" style caps might soon be hard to come by. I snagged one from a local Ace Hardware, who had one old-style can left in stock. The new style sure seems like a PITA, at least for us.
Regarding the electric vs. manual pump thing, I think manual is easily OK for 50cc. At 100cc it starts to be a chore, but not too bad. At 150cc or above, it really starts to be an issue, IMO. Actually, I think manual pumps wouldn't be so bad if they weren't geared so darn low. It's like riding a bike in first gear all of the time. A little larger pump, or handle, with perhaps twice the resistance to turn it, might make things easier--as opposed to 82 cranks to fill a tank! (And I don't mean more resistance with no gain in flow, as in the POS six shooter I once foolishly tried--for gas.) -- Mike

I put this together for our club. You can make one really easy. Here is a wiring diagram and part numbers from various suppliers. This one uses sig gas passer. I have used it and the greylor pump and both are about the same.
Instead of trying to make my own fueling taps for the can, I used a slimline m4 gas cap. Comes with the probe that works with normal fuel dots but even better if you use a slimline F1 fuel dot, it is hands free and snaps in. Works great, doesn't leak and fits any blitz can you can find at Home Depot. If you call, you can probably get them to just sell you the cap. I used the cap with my own electric pump. I don't have any pictures handy, but the pump and battery will fit in the box, or you can mount the pump on the outside, I have seen it both ways. The banana jacks are for charging the battery, or can be used to run a charger or a starter, if using this with glow. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...+M4+Gas+System http://www.slimlineproducts.com/onli.../f1_fueler.htm |

I am building a hand crank can.
What are you guys using for fittings to get the tubing in the can? Are you going through the cap or the top of the can? thanks |

Dubro sells it for 8-9 dollars, or around 20 if you get it with their pump.
You can go through either. |
