Default ESC/SBEC FRIED!!

Hey fellas can anyone help me out here? I just finished building my electric heli (M.A. Furion 450) - finally got around to doing some electronic/motor tests (also wanted to check my belt/pulley tension).

I thought I really learned about this stuff thoroughly (ESC's, Motors, Batteries) and here's what happened... I had everything plugged into the receiver correctly as follows... ch1 aileron servo, ch2 elevator servo, ch3 ESC/SBEC (in place of throttle), ch4 rudder, ch5 gyro, ch6 pitch servo

The motor was correctly connected to the ESC/SBEC (Scorpion Commander 60A V2 with switching BEC heli edition)... the motor is the Scorpion 2221-8 (Max continuous current 45A)

So I connect the battery correctly (using a Flight Power EON LITE 2550 mAh 3s 11.1V LiPo) and set the initial throttle range as per instruction manual, max to minimum and get the confirmation beeps from the ESC. There I am running the controls and checking everything for proper operation and then cycle the throttle (motor speed) a couple times observing belt tension - NEXT THING I KNOW, AS I'M RUNNING THE MOTOR AT A HIGHER SETTING I ALL OF THE SUDDEN SEE SMOKE POURING OUT OF THIS BRAND NEW ESC. Bam, it's done, toasted.

Have I done something wrong or for that matter not done something right here?? Did I just get a defective ESC? I also want to mention that this battery says '20C 51.0 Amp Continuous 40C 102.0 Amp Max Bursts' - but that shouldn't be a problem, right? I don't even really understand the whole 102.0 Amp Max Bursts thing. Can anybody surmise or help me out here PLEASE?? This was not a good loss for me, especially considering the $$$ this ESC cost. Thanks fellas.

Default Re: ESC/SBEC FRIED!!

ESC's fail. Sometimes even the good ones. Looks like you did everything right, and got a little unlucky. Hopefully your vendor will just swap you for a fresh one. The scorpion line has a great rep, so I wouldn't worry about that. Swap it and go fly.

Good luck,

Mike
