Default Hitec 5645 problems

Anybody had any problems with the 5645 servos losing center?-I noticed the other day that my extra 260 was dropping the left wing so I added a little right trim to level it out--When I went to knife edge position it pulled to the wheels-unusual as it knife edges really straight and clean--once on the ground I could see where both ailerons were deflected up--the left side abt 3/16 inch and the right side abt 2/16 inch----I shut everything off and turned the rx and tx back on and the ailerons went back to center------I changed radio and reciever and it still happened and there are no mixes turned on for any spoiler action--is it just the servos?

That has been a problem with the 56xx series of servo. I think it may be controlled, somewhat, by using the Hitec programmer to narrow the dead band to help hold the center more closely.

As far as I know, that would be your only recourse, short of calling hitec to see if there is a programming update they offer.

I had very similar problem using this servo on the rudder. I changed to another identical servo and again experienced the same problem. I eliminated receiver and radio as the cause and even changed linkage. I sent the servos back to servo city and they were replaced. Did not have the same problem with the replacement servo allthough I havent used but one of them. I wonder if its a batch or something. I purchased the problem servos january of 2006. replacement servos in april and they were backordered at that time.

I have not heard of this. I have 14 or so 5625 and 5645 series... strange. I wonder if you programmed them if that would help as mentioned above...

5645 are priced low with such specs for a reason, 5985 would be a better choice or even the 5955 if you can afford it

I had this email sent to me inresponse to a question on 5645 servos. This is direct from Srvo Cities tech department:
Sorry for the late reply. The HS-5645MG center extremely well. Any metal gear servo will eventually have the gear wear slightly which is one drawback to metal gears (other than titanium which do not wear). We sell thousands of 5645 servos and we have never had one returned for not centering. I would like to sell you the 5985 but they do not center any better. Thanks

Then get the Futaba S9452 great centering over time along with high speed 0.11s and good torque 128oz. That would be enough all the way till the 40%

htskywalker - we are not discussing brands or comparing - we are talking about the 5645 specifically!!

the 5645 will centre much better if setup with the programmer 100% as Boulder says - this remains a budget first generation digital servo and there are many better ones today - dont forget you get what you pay for - i still have many 5645's working well for years and i live with the centering that is not perfect.

I have personally noticed the centering is not perfect on the 5645's.
Having said that it is only ever a click or two difference & not very often.
Otherwise a top servo.

Adrian, if you take the budget/performance/feature into consideration, yes the 5645 is indeed the best value servo out there. Centering is a common metal gear issue in all brands (Titanium excluded). The weak side on the 5645 is the speed !!

I swapped my old analog servos for the 5645's in a funtana. The servo centering was bad you were constantly correcting just for straight and level flight. I sent them back and learnt my lesson.

How long ago did you have these servos? I have read that Hittec had some issues with the early production 5645's but they fixed the issue after that first run. Also you can tighten the deadband with the servo programmer to solve the center issue.
