All I run is the ZDZ brand. I have a 60RV, 80B2 and the 160 B2 Champion. The champion is the smaller and lighter of the two ZDZ 160s. It has a good solid case. The current series has the new spark plug flanges that allow the plug to seat directally against the cylinder head, the taper on the plug meeting the taper of the cylinder. Caution, torque the dry plug to 15/17 foot pounds or you will have one hell of a time removing it. All ZDZ engines with the rotary input valve have a unique start procedure. First, the carb has to be full of fuel. After the first start of the day it is. For example on my ZDZ60 if it sets for a week it takes about 30 flips to get the carb full of fuel, it's a long pull from the tank. Then the procedure is 5-5-1.
Full throttle, choke on, ignition off, 5 flips, this gets fuel in the crank case.
Full throttle, choke off, ignition off, 5 flips, this gets the right mixture in the crank case and the top end.
Idle maybe one click up, choke off, ignition on, 1 flip and it's is running.
My 80B2 and Champion have on board electric starters. I use the same procedure with the exception no hand flipping.

Is there a need for a carburettor in a ZDZ 160 Champion or ZDZ 160 B2 RV?

Most engines (including ZDZ's) run best with a carburetor or some type of fuel injection. Very few engines will run without a proper mixture of fuel and air.

Sounds like you need to find somebody local with knowledge of operating these engines. You sound like you don't even know how a 2-stroke engine works, and messing with a 160cc engine with a 32" prop could cost you your life, or mame you badly.
Tell us where you are in the world and find somebody knowledgeable to help you. You don't start flying a private plane without instructions first and you shouldn't play with a 17HP quisinart without having some knowledge about it.
