Extra 260 H9 or AW Yak 100cc

Hello folks.

Which airplane is the best in both precision/3D? Have the Extra 260 35% on box now, but i'm thinking in the Yak 54 100cc from now.

What do you think? Extra 260 35 from Hangar 9 or Yak 54 100cc from Aeroworks?

I have the H9 35% Extra 260. I have not flown it yet but I can tell you that it went together very fast. The quality was excellent.

Also, it weighs in at less than 27.5 pounds with no attempt to use any lightening techniques.

Between those two I would say the H9 260 most definitely. But between the H9 260 and the Aeroworks 260, well, that would be a tough one, real tough. I'll give it to you this way and you can decide from there.
I had a H9 260. Very light - 26.3 pounds with tuned pipes with little effort to drop weight. I won several IMAC contests with it, and it 3D'ed well when I wanted it to. BUt I sold it and bought a second Aeroworks 260 and still have it. I loved the first one but sold it due to tight $ - turned out that I just couldn't live without one. I am glad I bought another and wouldn't give it up for anything. It's quality is far superior to the H9, too. However, I really did like the H9 260 and wouldn't mind havinng another to sit along my AW, simply because it looks cool and flies awesome - so well, that it makes you forget that the quality is a little lacking.

Did you have an earlier production run? I bought mine recently and the quality is excellent (and I'm very picky). Either I got lucky or the newer production runs have improved quality.

The H-9 is a better lookin plane and parts are easy to get. I have one now on it's 3rd season and it's a great everyday plane.

one more vote for the H9 260 everyone has a yak, get the extra!
i 3D the crap outa mine, yet it still flies very good precision. a little trimming and i'll be using
it for all of my imac stuff this year.

Well, well. So the BIG "problem" is between the Extras. Well, personaly i've never flown neither of the airplanes, but here in Brazil there's a lot of the H9 Extra. Last IMAC were 5. Definitely the airplane is great, but i don't like the fact that almost everybody has it.

So, if the flight caracteristics of both are almost the same i would go on Aeroworks!

Well, I guess Bodyworks and I agree 100% about this choice. The H-9 is possibly the best flying ARF in this size I have ever flown. The AW-260 (I still have one) is also great flying, and is probably the best built, most durable ARF on the market. You do have to build it with the goal of keeping it light in order to maximize it's potential. I would choose either of these planes over the AW YAK. I had one, it flew great, I just like the way the Extras fly better especially for 3D/Freestyle.

I notice you are in Brazil. I think the deciding factor should be which ever one you can get the best support in Brazil.

I also what to do some imac as well a 3d, with a preference to 3d.

Yes, and overall, the construction was good. I did have that wing failure, but that's just what you get for buying a first production run.
What I mean by the 260 being of lesser quality is in it's ability to look as good as new on day 400 as it did on day one. Yes, the H9 is considerably lighter, but you see it in the flimsiness of the cowl and hatch and the flexiness of the fuse, and in the waviness of the sheeting over the thin wings. And the overall fit and finish of many of the components is inferior to what I have experienced with any of my Aeroworks planes.
Don't get me wrong, the Aeroworks has its shortcomings. It is typically heavier in construction, and the paint can't handle isopropyl alcohol, and the painted covering on the hatch is a BEAR to shrink back down if it wrinkles, and in the case of my 42% 260 I am simply stuck with the hideous wrinkles. And the tiny, 1/4" aluminum dowls into holes in cheap chinese plywood to hold down the front of the hatch just makes no sense to me. I start to notice play there after 15-20 flights. Why they didn't choose to use larger diameter hardwood dowling, which has a closer hardness/density to the plywood instead of the aluminum is beyond me. But it is a simple mod to do and I did it on my 42%er and it has been solid since - my 100cc 260 is in bad need of this mod now.

I agree that it is better looking than the Yak, but not sure about that compared to the AW 260. I like the looks lof them both for different reasons I guess, and I like that you can get the AW in like 4 or 5 different schemes now.

I had a H9 260 and now have the EF110. Like others have said the H9 is an awesome plane but I also had problems with quality. It did seem to look like it had 500 flights on it when it only had 75. Now I have the EF and it's at least as good a flier as the 260 was. Quality easily goes to the EF over the H9. I would recommend the EF over the H9.

It looks like they're using ceramic to inhibit this from happening on their new 50cc Extra 300 and Edge 540 planes.
