Hi all, I am newby to all these,
I hope you can see the attachments to give you an idea. My neighbor's kid's plane crashed & broke the wing in two. Info below says repair foam with "CA". Can you give me some clues how to go about trying to fix it for them? I have no clue on consideration for "dihedral" (is that what you call the tilt angle of wings) or weight. The ragged edges at the brake seem to fit in each other to show roughly the tilt angle from the horizontal. Can something be inserted, Spring wire ?? etc, to join each wing & glue brake edges to hold correct angle?. Their web site shows all spares eccept the wing. Model:- HBZ7100 Hobbyzone Super Cub - RTF ".............Durable Z-Foam construction - an extremely durable foam that is lighter and stiffer than most foams, and allows the plane to fly truer and straighter out of the box. It is easily repairable with CA, and is the same material that is used in the F-27B Stryker and Typhoon 3D from ParkZone............" i It seems, in attachments that from the one that has both wings at the cut (002) the ragged edges fit exactly so that as the third one (003) shows the cut is virtually invisible. Can I just poor Zap-0 in both sides, bring them together & support the wings hopefully to keep the tilt. The cut is on the right of the center section, will the glue weight in it need balancing on the other side? Is glue below liquidy enough to flow inside the ragged edges without reinforcement?. & how long to dry enough to install, 8secs ??? I presume goes on with elastic bands as I have not seen what type of fuselage it has. Zap-O (odourless) All the strength without the smell. Well worth the extra cost for those prone to cyano fumes. Zap-O is 'Foam Safe' 8 Seconds 20g MF-ZC-14 £5.85 nick |

If it were my wing, I'd glue in some toothpics or carbon and glue it with any foam same CA. for added strength you could use gorilla glue (no water)but the glue will leave a brownish line at the break . should be good as new. as far a dihedral, lay down some wax paper on a flat surface, glue and join the parts, and weight it down near the break. that should keep the dihedral. hope this helps

I would just put toothpicks and foam safe CA and put it back together. Should be perfect.

With foam safe you have all the time in the world until you hit it with the kicker. after kicker, only a few seconds max. after you kick it let it sit for 2-3 min to let the whole joint dry. With gorilla glue about 20-35 min depending on temp and humidity.

Gorilla Glue might be a little harder to work with because it expands. Just hit it with some medium foam safe CA, hold it for a minute or two and then go fly. Thats how we repair the foamy wings when they break from hitting the ground. Usually back up in the air in seconds.

The best fix I have found- get the quick set instant gorilla glue- it is white when it cures. Lightly coat both pieces well to get 100% coverage. Then fit the wing back together. Cover the seam with clear packaging tape- then douse with water- enough will seep around the tape to kick off the gorilla glue. The tape will keep the glue from making nasty bubbles. After this has set up use some flat carbon fiber sticks- probably some 5-6in pieces of the 1/4" wide stuff, Cut some thin slices the bottom of the wing and span the break in 2-3 places with the carbon. Glue it in with gorilla glue with the same tape procedure. It will be stronger than new and with some practice you can hardly see the repair. I have glued numerous foam planes back together this way. It is much more durable than a CA repair.

I second the Gorilla Glue idea. It is strong stuff and it foams to fill in the gaps and makes a solid, light weight, bond.

Foam Safe CA doesn't work to well on Z-Foam, which is recommeded to have regular medium CA for repairing.
Also, GG is messy, so wrap tape around the seam to keep it from expanding out. Oh, and use the Gorilla Glue Fast Cure, which remains while, so it won't give you a nasty brown line.

Another thing with gorilla glue- simple green will take it off before it sets so if you get in on your tools or hands- wash off with simple green before it sets up..
