Is there a better way ? How do you get the bumps or dips out of your runway ?

We have the best luck rolling when the ground is still slightly wet usually a day or so after it rains then drag around the roller. When our field is completely dry the ground is rock hard and the roller does nothing. You will probably have to roll it allot to smooth it out.

We have a guy in the club that owns something similar to this and comes out and rolls the field in the Spring for us.

I agree. Best to roll after a good rain but not so soon that the roller picks up soil in the bare or thin spots. We have had a few pick-up truck loads of top soil and guys with shovels to fill some low spots.
Asphalt? I never would have said that! Use concrete!

we roll ours atleast 3 times a season. we are lucky and have a couple farmers in our club that just seem to have every piece of equipment we could imagine. it has taken a couple of years for our field to get to be as smooth as we like but it has been well worth the effort. make sure you roll it more than just once a season. let it rain a time or two and then, the day after get on out there and roll away. make sure to roll it at the end of the season as well.
good luck.

that's how we started with ours. it still takes a good rollin' every other month or so to keep it as flat as possible. we get the neighbor's cattle breaking thru the electric fence every so often and wandering around dropping pies all over our field and believe me.... that does NOT help at all!!!! lol

Asphalt, pavement, anything that isnt grass. the field i fly at has a paved runway. although it had a few cracks and bumps, its far less troublesome as a grass runway

Didn't see it mentioned but DO NOT roll it the same way all the time...
that can just make it worse.... alternate directions.. 45 degrees, 90 degrees etc. etc.
