Stephen, Thanks very much for the opportunity to contribute to the great website called Flying Giants. I guess I'll have to start with the disclaimer that I'm a pilot, and I fly a lot of pattern, so I'll try and check up often but can not guarentee I'll answer a question immediately.
Second, my aircraft and giant size radio setups are normally done as simple as possible. My experience is that simplicity often leads to more reliability, less maintenance, and greater flexibility (i.e., more flying time). So those are the words of wisdom for the day. Another disclaimer is related to a major sponsor- JR/Spektrum. I fly JR because I find ease of programming in the radios, am impressed with their high quality servos and experience excellent service from Horizon. In terms of giant scale sponsors, it's been quite a while, but there is a manufacturer called Desert Aircraft who made an engine called the DA-150- and now they have the DA-170. I've been running the DA 150 for 6 years and it is still going strong. My hat is off to Dave Johnson. That's all that come to mind for now. Heading to bed.... Remember, the radius needs to be constant during the loop segments of an avalance, cuban 8, half square loop, and more throttle in wind. Keep the wings level. It's energy management. As an old but distiguished pilot (Don Kidd) once told me "engines eat wind". Regards, Don |
